I've got a 2001 SR5 Hilux 2.7 litre and was after some advice on a couple of things I want to add.
Firstly I was hoping to get an Electric winch fitted to the front as I might be doing small trips with just the missus and will need it in case I get into some trouble. Could someone please advise on what brands are considered good quality and also what "size" i should be looking for, like the weight capacity etc?? I've never bought one
Also, I need to fit a CB, any tips at all would be great cause I've never done that either??
I'm going to get it all fitted by an auto elec. but might buy the parts beforehand if I can save some coin that way. I also want to have an idea so I don't get shafted by some punter flogging me dodgy gear.
Any other general tips on some basic things I could do a standard SR5 Hilux to give it a little more go would be great

Hey mate,
The winch... i spose you have arb/tjm/ genuin bullbar with space for a winch?? If you do...generally you have a choice of 8000p or 9000p winches...Carnt go wrong with any warn winch...there is a new one out called a TABOR wich warn makes but sell it off as tabor not warn...its the old 9000p as they make the 9.5xp now instead(wich wont fit many bars yet) 9000pound will do all that you ask.
With CB's i belvie you mean a UHF (Cb is the older AM type) from my experince GME or Uniden is the best.... Gme im biast to as there good fellas when they take ya out on there boat theres a few types to choose from the basic slim line gme unit is the tx3200 slighty better model is the 3400 with a remote face plate(Programable channels) or the tx4400 wich is a full din size(cdplayer) neaar the same as the tx3400.
there is a good dozen and more types of arials...all better or worse and $$$

as for power increases a good extractors and exhaust is always good.
bein a IFS veichle your kinda limited in suspion mods deping on how serious and $$$$ you get

Dunno much at all about the winches but I'd strongly recomend that you buy a GME UHF - And depending on your budget/needs either the TX3200, TX3400 or TX4400 as Macca177 has said.
There's two major differences between all the radios...
TX3200/3400 have a very small and slimline face panel - so if your tight for space either of these are a good model. Keeping in mind that the TX3400 has a remote head that you can put anywhere in the vehicle and place the main unit somewhere tucked away... e.g: under the seat... The TX4400 is a full size DIN mount radio one big advantage over the other two is that the 4400 has a "firewall" mounted speaker. Meaning that the speaker is in the front of the radio next to the LCD screen and you don't need to mount an external speaker to get clear sound.
The second biggest difference is that the TX3400 & TX4400 have a great deal many more features over the TX3200. The 3200 is a very rugged and reliable radio thats for sure, but if you get into using the radio a bit, there's features like Sellcall etc.. that can be very useful and the 3200 doesn't have it. Also if you wanted to have any extra channels programed into the radio, the 3400/4400 has the ability to do this. This feature can be good because apart from the standard 40ch (1-40 Simplex, 1-8 Duplex), you can have channels programed like Ambulance or Fire's...
It really comes down to cost and what you think you'll use it for. If your just goning to use it to talk on on the odd ocassion... then the TX3200 would be the cheaper option. But if you think you might get into using it a fair bit, then maybe a better model like the TX3400/4400 would be the go.

It's not the truck thats always getting stuck... its the driver... :finger:
decent recovery gear/kit
rear bar is a good investment especisally if you have a tub tray the arb style rear bar protects pretty well
side rails for protection
steel bull bar
mud tyres
a change of shocks atleast due to genuine shocks give a fairly harsh ride on or offroad old man emu are good
it depends how much you want out of the rig n how far you wanna take it and if the bug bites you will wanna go all the way but youre own recovery is probably important

Even if it means that you have to buy bit by bit instead of getting it all at once. Buy the best you can get.
Cheap 4WD accessories generally cost you a lot in the long run. If a cheap winch fails and your on your own, you're buggered, if you get a cheap radio and it fails.... you get the point.
