where is the oil feed for a 4bd1t turbo?

Anyone running a 4bd1t where is the oil pickup for the turbo on the motor? please describe the position as i cannot locate it.

Andrew,

My 4BD1-T has the Garret Turbo, my manual is for the IHI turbo and shows the same arrangement, but the plumbing to the turbo will be a little different because the exhaust manifold and turbo are different.

Looking at the engine from the RH side, a pipe runs from the oil filter housing to the oil cooler inlet.

The housing on the top of this pipe, which attaches to the oil cooler, has an outlet at the 10 o'clock position. The lube pipe from this outlet runs around the rear of the head to the turbo.

thanks john, i found it. it is currentlu blanked off with a cap screw and a copper washer, so its definately it.

i bought a water cooled ball bearing nissan turbo which bolts straight on to the turboglide manifold for $300, i think its off a RB20T and im anxious to get it running.

TO DO LIST

modify dump pipe
exhaust
oil and water lines
pipework
mount intercoolers
more pipework
tweak fuel pump

It is the the Garret that was stock on the 4BD1-T, sorry I dont know the model, but it is small and doesn't have a wastegate.

I will be changing the turbo and adding an intercooler at some point in the future - but have a lot of other stuff to do before I get around to that.

Sorry to hijack, but John, what is your bushrangie like offroad with such a heavy motor and gearbox up the front? Any idea what the weight balance is like? Or what your gearbox weighs?

I'd say it was similar to a rangie with Isuzu.

I had the front axle moved forward, which helped, but now re-doing all of the drive train and suspension and taking the body lift out. Moving the engine back through the firewall to be behind the front axle and lower. Also revising the gearbox to t/case adaptor to shorten it as much as I can.

Winch should fit behind the front cross member. The batteries in bushies are just in front of the rear tyres.

I don't know the gearbox weight, with a cast iron case and the size of the internals, it is heavy.

Apologies for buttin' in but you guys that are running the Isuzus may be able to help, I have 4 brand new injectors and suspect they may be from an Isuzu 4BD1-T

That injector is nothing like those in my 4BD1-T, which are held in by 2 studs and nuts .
