GQ Shaking door rattling driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by TinyGQ »

My GQ has started annoying the crap out of me and i was hoping someone may have some advice on how to stop the rattling noise of the doors. I thought it was the front doors and i think it still might be a little but i have bought new door hinges and have yet to put them in. Also my front windows rattle in the rubber guides which need replacing but recently the sound has come from the back. the left hand rear door even when slammed wont completely close. When you shut it, it is still able to move when you pull it and push it back and forth, i think this is where half of my nuisence is coming from. Also the rear folding doors are rattling. I have a 35 on the back is that possibly too heavy for the door? the bottom lock doesnt move when closed but the top latch has movement and rattles when going over even small road bumps, can that be replaced and would it fix anything because it doesnt look worn? Anyway hopefully this makes sence and someone can help me!!!!

sorry cant help ya too much, but having a 35 on the back door check that there are no cracks on the body where the hinges join. apparently it is fairly common when a big tyre is put on there

Things that rattle:

Front inner guards cracked. Solution is to pull guards off, drill all the spot welds out that have cracked/pulled away, v the big cracks out and weld it all back together again. Try not to set your rig on fire or melt/drill wiring etc. Paint/rustproof properly afterwards.

Front door upper hinges worn out. Replace, ebay or genuine about $60ea

Bailey channel in doors worn out lets windows rattle. Replace. Rare Spares, about $25 a side.

Worn body mounts = creaks groans rattles. Replace, or remove crush tube and shorten a couple of mm, or use a washer with an id bigger than the crush tube and od as big as will fit (just drop the lower half of the mount off, insert washer and replace mount).

Broken engine/gearbox mounts. Make everything rattle, including your teeth. Replace with genuine items. Bloke on ebay has genuine engine mounts, I have his email if you want to try direct.

Bonnett not adjusted correctly. Adjust bonnett stops so it is level with guards. Adjust catch until there is no movement in bonnett when closed.

Doors not adjusted correctly. Adjust striker mechanism so door panels are flush with panels and there is minimum movement in and out when you push on them when shut. Don't go overboard or youll be slamming the door to get it to close properly.

Exhaust system. Check all hangers and make sure there is no metal to metal contact between mounting bolts and mounts.

Cracked rear barn doors. Make a swing away spare carrier and weld all the cracks up.

Cracked/buggered seats/bases. Fix or replace.

Cracked rear spring mounts. Spring mounts touching body or working the crack make rattles too. Inspect. Hope they arent buggered.

Suspension/shock bushes. Check em all. replace the stuffed ones.

In a shorty I had the bar above the roof lining used to tap on the roof metal. I never pulled the lining off but you could bump it upwards with your hand to make the rattle. From the drivers seat it sounded like the rear door.
