SWB Zook Ute

Post by bigsteve »

Hi All,

Those who have met me will know that I have been toying with the idea of cutting the back corner of my hard top off and converting my ride into a SWB ute.

I have a number of reasons for doing this:
1) I'd like a soft top but cant justify forking out any money on a soft top body when mine is reasonably straight.
2) The only reason I have kept the back seat this long is that I have 2 todlers, but because my wife and I are currently working on number three the possibility of family trips in the zook is history.
3) I'd like to go out shooting a bit more.

E.t.c. E.t.c. Blah blah blah

What I am getting at is that I want to cut along the soft top line in the body to the b pillar straight up just ahead of the window edge and up to the roof, I want to take the back 1.5 inches out of the roof and re-attach it linking the two B pillars. This with a simple cage, no back tailgate and two sets of doors - 1 normal size the other cut down (Thanks again Greg). and vualla a SWB ZUK UTE.

I'm after any advice, pics web links to any hard top zooks with these sorts of cut-&-shut type body mods, also any constructive criticism/suggestions you may have.

The reason I have gone from ideas to implementation is because I just found out that the workshop I use for all my mods will no longer exist in 6 weeks time so things have sped up somewhat.

Cheers

Big Steve (Some Ideas Pics attached)

i've still got both halves for joining up if you want it

that way you don't have to trash your current body

can i point out that the body of your sierra is probably the straightest in the whole club mate. and here you go cutting it up willy-nilly. i like it, that's great :D

we need more pro-active people in the club like you :D

the only drama could be the clearance of the rear wheel and the tub once you chop and half cab. There used to be a guy in our club with a ute cab on a swb chassis and there was a bit of fiddling to get things right

The main reasons I want to do mine like that is so I can push the rear diff backwards a few inches .. move the fuel tank forward and shed a few Kg's .. Soooo hopefully cab to tyre clearance will be a non issue .. :D .. Unless I figure some way to run 38 's or 40's back there ... Give the Zuk that Dragster look ... :evilbat:

Thanks mate, Pro-active is certainly a different way to describe it.
