Just asking a question for a mate. He has a 62 series 1988 model crusier he has killed the rear axle and diff. He wants to know if there is different width's in mounting points for different models. Ie can he use a 60 series diff or not?

60 Series rear Diff

the diff housings are different between the base modlel and the g-pac .
as the g-pac had a rubber cushion set up between the diff and the spring pack. this ment the locating hole has the be bigger ..
i thing g-pac 's after 1984 didn't have the rubber cushion setup .
and u have to use different fish plate in the model with the rubber cushion setup.
and late model g-pac's had sway bars in the rear .

What he has done is the pass side wheel bearing has siezed on the highway and ripped the axle to shreds and is unable to get the rest of the axle out as it seems to have chewed up the insides of the diff with it.
He wants to know if the mounting points for the springs are further aprt or closer or same between each different version?

I dont think youl have any problem bolting a diff out of any 60 series onto any other 60 series. May require a small amount of modification although nothing trivial.
As rockhopper said, the spring locating hole in the diff is larger on different models, meaning maybe youl have to get the springs aswell, or weld the hole smaller and redrill it? Or if yours requires a bigger hole just redrill it larger.
Also as Sixty said, the pinion flange may be different, but if you have your old diff you should be able to use the flange or maybe even the whole 3rd member from your old diff.
You wont have to move spring mounts or anything like that.
