Height after spring lift?

Post by CHOPS1 »

I just put a 50mm spring lift in today (Leaf) and i measured all four corners before and after. The rear after is 80mm difference and the front is only 40mm. has anyone else had such a difference?
I know the front has the extra weight but i wouldnt have thought it would have been that different.

The rear springs may have been sagged a fair way. I put 3 inch springs in my gf's sierra and it went up about 4 inches. The back a little higher than the front.

I got them from 4wd systems here in adelaide, i had to order them in as they had just sold the last kit a week ago. the rears are ironman and the front are belton(never heard of them) they worry me but the guy told me they are the same rate and height when installed. I'll be letting them know all about if they are different.

That's a decent difference. I don't think any amount of 'settling' will fix that.

Perhaps they are a "load carrying" spring. Well that is generally the excuse used by most suspension suppliers of their springs being so stiff.

Had the same on my old Vit with the spring rate, they simply said they are designed for offroad load carrying applications, it was a SWB Vitara.

Need to do your home work before you buy springs.

With yours maybe remove a leaf or two out of the pack or extended shackles in the front

I had beltons springs in mine, they were great .. I added an extra full length leaf to em to (I cant belive I am saying this) stiffen them up a bit for my SPOA.
They lasted well, rode smooth and flexed up as good as the OME's I had previously (limited by shock length)
I would buy beltons again for another leaf sprung vehicle price was good for a pretty reasonable product (I paid $100 per rear spring with brand new rubber bushes installed)

I'm going to ring them tomorrow and tell them the difference and see
what they say.
I'm certain its the fact they are two different brands!
I'd much rather get matching front ironman springs if the rear is anything to go by!

Your front springs had all the engine weight on them for many years so they should be sagged more then your rear ones, my rear ones still have a bit of shape and my front ones are flat so if u measured before wat were the before measurements? Were they equal or the front lower?

Does it look level with those differences?

No they werent level.

But they are bloody wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I rang them this morning and told them the difference and that the front is nowhere near 50mm( it should of showed more than 50mm on the tape because they were sagged so much). He told me that he would ring me back within 2 hours, 3 hours later i rang him which he obviously didnt like from the tone in his voice! He then told me he is still waiting for someone to call back.
I rang him again when i got home from work and he still had no answers, he tried to tell me they had sold 2 sets the same in the last 6 weeks and they had no problems. I'm pissed! he rang me back right on 5:30pm and said they are wrong(derr) and he is gettin another set. Thing is now i have to waste another half a day redoing it and also i live south of adelaide and they are north of adelaide. I think think they couldnt get a set so they got whatever they could, because why would you have 2 different brands.

WHAT BRANDS SHOULD I LOOK OUT FOR AS I DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE GETTING IN?

What angle should the shackles be on after lifted springs are installed?
And what is a bad angle?

My shackles are standard.
The rear springs seem to be to short.
