The clutch in the disco finally gave up last night flaring with a hint of pedal hop so after about 6894 phone calls i have settled 4 a hd clutch kit from all 4x4 spares witch is usually fitted to the 130 defender for the army and railway i have been told to go this way by pretty much all of the locall clutch mobs so $500 bucks lates sees me with a clutch kit rear seal and a carton of frustration remedy

well the point is when the clutch and gbox mobs asked me who is fitting the clutch and i said me they all looked relieved and said good luck and may the force be with you are they really that bad? i have done about 500 in peterbuilt and kenworth prime movers so it cant be as bad as them surely

but if any1 knows what size the bell housing bolts are that would be good so as i can get sone 4 inch long studs to guide the box on

(imho it makes things easier)
so seriously whats the worst that could happen?

I think the easiest way to replace the clutch is to remove the rad and bring the motor forward enough to replace the clutch. I did this to my rangie years ago and only took a day.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.

Yep found it much easier to move engine and fit clutch.

If you have access to a hoist then drop box out.

bellhousing bolts should be 3/8" UNC if it's a rover V8,not sure about TDI's.

if you are changing the clutch, you would be well advised to change all the other bits in there as well... i.e. fork, bearings etc...
may as well for the small extra $$ involved... dont want to be pulling it again

it is a tdi i will be doin the whole kit and kaboodle i will lift it up with the fork lift and put it up on truck brake drums for height and i have a gearbox jack so it should be ok

clutch done with out no major dramas 13 hours including 2 trips to the bottle shop not as bad as the local clutch mob made out they said it would take 2 days
