4.8 GU motor into GQ
4.8 GU motor into GQ
I was at the wreckers today and i saw a 4.8 GU motor lying in the yard wit a tip tronic auto on the back of it. I noe Adam Brid has changed to a 4.8 in his coil cab (turbo too
). I was wandering how hard it would be to change it over. It came with a wiring loom. I thought the GQ transfer case is the same as the GU so it would bolt up to the transfer case, just need custom mounts get the gear box and motor bolted to the chassis. Is there any other things to look out for that is hidden. And would engineering be a pain aswell. There is enough clearence so I think it would be easy. What do you guys reckon.

Re: 4.8 GU motor into GQ
what was the cost of the 4.8?
would you be better off with a 350 chev? or 383 chev?

Yer but u cant beat the sound of a turbo 6, unless u have a turbo 8
. I was thinking about turboing and injecting a 4.2 petrol but it is so common. I want something different and rare. I think there are only 3 or 4 cars wit this conversion. i was also thinking about putting a BA falcon 4 litre turbo motor from the XR6 turbo. 240kw in standard tune and wit the turbo tricked up a little, imagine that. Then all i have to do is put maverick and ford badgers on it
. I didnt ask the price of the 4.8 as yet, sorry bogger. And i also forgot to add i want a motor under my bonnet with a turbo.

What about grabbing a normal EL/AU 6 cyl and turboing that? That gets some pretty wicked results around the 220kw mark with about 7psi.
I think the cost of a complete new engine for a XR6 Turbo would probably not be much more than buying a secondhand one.
Certainly probably wouldnt be any more than buying the 4800 and then turbocharging that.
