gear ratio question for 35" tyres

I was thinking a little earlier about the gear ratios in the diffs on the conversion for the Deo..... i'll be putting 4.88:1 gear sets in it, which i'm told is the lowest you can get for GQ diffs. I'm curious as to whether that gearing will be low enough to run 35" tyres? i guess it will, but i'm wondering about the clutch. any thoughts? The amount of lift involved, i think 33" tyres might look too small

what is your current gear spacs at the moment, and what size tyres are you currently running?

currently running 31" tyres on 4.55:1 gearing, and it does it fairly easily too.

EDIT: keep in mind, the diffs will be under a 2.8 T/D Rodeo

Just a quick guess, I think your R&P ratios need to be in the 5.??? something to run 35" correctly.

an online calculator said i need 5.17 to run them........ but i'm thinking 4.88 would suffice. I run 31" tyres on 4.55 easily where it says i should be running 4.88 just to run 31's from the standard size of 29" I have seen a lot of the lux boys running 35's on 4.6 diffs. And i can guarantee i have a bit more power than the 2.8 hilux

that sounds like a good idea to me.... dunno if the ground anchor will like me spending 3 grand on wheels and tyres although, she also doesn't know i have budgeted about 7 grand for the SAS and coils i hear the divorce courts aren't that bad

bear in mind... you can get the tyres cheap on the for sale section on the forums

You'll probably find that you will change most of the mechanicals in your truck to achieve what you have in mind.
I'd guess it will drive OK but you will wear your clutch out fairly quick and 5th gear won't be used much. Also have you got a price on the 4.8 gears- I think they are $$$?
To make everything work sweet I would consider an engine swap with auto or look at transfer gear change. I don't know if there is much around for the ol Rodeo but if you can source a LT230 Rover t case you will get 3.3 : 1 low range and 1.2 : 1 high range (or 1.4 : 1 with Defender t case). With this t case you would not need to bother with the diff gears and could use the money for the transfer swap.

from other experiences, does anybody think i will have trouble with widening my wheel track by about 6"? engineer wise i mean...... cuz with the GQ diffs, and 12.5 tyres, my wheel track will be probably around 6" wider each side.

You want to put GQ diffs under a Rodeo? why? Massive amounts of work for the gain... And the resale in the end will be severely fubar...

Also having 6inch wide flairs is gonna look fairly average... Wouldnt be better off with a Lux to start with?

why? because i can, because it hasn't been done (to my knowledge) massive amounts of work? would be easier if i wanted to do a SAS with leaf springs, which i don't want. Resale? mate, i'll drive it into the ground, resale doesn't bother me one bit....... i own it, at the end of the day, if i decide to sell it, which i doubt, i'll break it up and part it out. Flares can be boxed and made to look fairly reasonable better off with a lux? why? if i want to do a coil conversion on a lux, it would cost just as much, the nissan diffs are stronger, and it will be every bit as capable as a lux with the same conversion IMO Besides, i like my Deo.... i have enough people wanting to see this conversion through that i doubt i will have to do much of it on my own. I can get ALL the parts i need for about 5 grand (not including new tyres and wheels) WHy do people modify anything? cuz they want to Besides, this is my own lil mid-life crisis i could have gone out and bought a sports car this is much more fun

I have heard it a MILLION times...... thats why when i first started to research the conversion i stated i do not want to buy this or buy that... i want to do this to MY vehicle The Deo is a fairly unique looking Rodeo as it is, i have grown to like my vehicle...... it will definately be a unique vehicle when it's done won't miss a Rodeo with 14" of lift and 35" tyres.
