Automotive Engineer

Post by Vulcanised »

can anybody give me a name of a good engineer in or around Newwie? i'm told there is a guy at Cardiff that is very good, the RTA site lists 2 of them. I want to speak to one about the SAS on the Deo before i start it to make sure i go about it the right way.

A few of us had certs done by him also. He is pretty easy going. Vitol I think the co name is. On the flip side, once engineered it also will have to have a blue slip done on it, so everything still needs to be good.

if it's done properly and certified, a blue slip should only be a formality.......... i hope

Yeah, VTOL is the name. Something to do with aircraft in the name too. His name is Duan, sounds like Don :D

When i got my engineers certificate done and went for the blue slip, they only took it for a break test and checked the regular's like they do in a pink slip. They said there's no need to check over the engineers work, because you paid him to check it all and they are more qualified in that department then they are.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)

sounds like it's no real drama if the work is done properly. Hopefully it will go along smoothly

from other experiences, does anybody think i will have trouble with widening my wheel track by about 6"? engineer wise i mean...... cuz with the GQ diffs, and 12.5 tyres, my wheel track will be probably around 6" wider each side.

Shouldn't be a problem if they are covered with something structural

You want to put GQ diffs under a Rodeo? why? Massive amounts of work for the gain... And the resale in the end will be severely fubar...

Also having 6inch wide flairs is gonna look fairly average... Wouldnt be better off with a Lux to start with?

heres an interesting read on a job done on a lux

why? because i can, because it hasn't been done (to my knowledge) massive amounts of work? would be easier if i wanted to do a SAS with leaf springs, which i don't want. Resale? mate, i'll drive it into the ground, resale doesn't bother me one bit....... i own it, at the end of the day, if i decide to sell it, which i doubt, i'll break it up and part it out. Flares can be boxed and made to look fairly reasonable  better off with a lux? why? if i want to do a coil conversion on a lux, it would cost just as much, the nissan diffs are stronger, and it will be every bit as capable as a lux with the same conversion IMO  Besides, i like my Deo.... i have enough people wanting to see this conversion through that i doubt i will have to do much of it on my own. I can get ALL the parts i need for about 5 grand (not including new tyres and wheels) WHy do people modify anything? cuz they want to :D Besides, this is my own lil mid-life crisis  i could have gone out and bought a sports car  this is much more fun :)

Now that Roe is sorted.... What about Western Sydney engineers? Anyone...

I found one off the list in the sticky, but he wants to charge $50/half hour for a consultation to discuss mods  Is that normal?

checked with the engineer..... he has no probs with it!

Tony,

From what you've described, I don't see any real problems provided that the work is done correctly.

Obviously, there will be a few details to be sorted out, including calibration of speedo to suit the change of diff ratio and tyre diameter, flares if required, extended mudflaps behind the back wheels, etc..
