1/4 Elliptic ?????
G'day,
I've been contemplating gonig for a 1/4 Elliptic rear on My FJ45 after i do a spring over.
What sorts of experiences have you guys had and wound you recomend i do it? The FJ is an offroad vehicle, so on road manners don't matter
Cheers

From what I've seen, I don't really like 1/4 elliptic rear setups. Sam Kecks rig is the only one I've seen in person in action and that was at the last TT comp (before it's current state). It had awesome flex, but was not balanced with the front and I felt that it allowed the car to tip too much putting it into rollover country. It was almost like it needed to be limited...which in my view kinda eliminates putting so much work into that kinda setup in the 1st place.
Personally...I prefer a well balanced suspension setup, where the front flexes just as much as the rear, keep the truck as level as possible. For me, the good old KISS theory (Keep It Simple Stupid) always seems to work well....SPOA, longer springs, applicable spring rate, good flex.
All is just my 2cents worth...Sam don't hurt me

i have heard and read lots about this setup and have contemplated it my self many many times, but fro wot i have read i have come up with this.
pros:
good travel
pin it up 4 streeting
cons:
excessive axle wrap
suspension unloads in weird places (ie going down a hill, side slopes)
if i do it i think ill use 2 or maybe even 3 leaves on the top spring 2 stiffen it up a little
not much info 4 u but i hope it helps

I have a 3/4 on the rear of my zuk and can't recommend it highly enough, however it is still spua and on a light vehicle. I have had it for about 6 yearsd and it has performed flawlessly, no strange behaviour on or off road. It has given me more controlled travel, a smoother ride all for very little investment ( a set of spare springs cut down and some trailer ubolts)
On a spoa setup and a heavier vehicle some of what hypolux would certainly be an issue. The good thing about it is that it is not a major mod, easy to put it back if it is not working for you.
