Extended shackles - now with measurements

Post by De-lux »

ok. I need to give the measurements to my boiler maker - mate to knock these us for me, but i need a quick few measurements from people that have made them, or have some they can give me help with. diagram is attached. read on :D

Image

A = ~ 220mm <unsure of this measurement, but 200mm from eye to eye (B to C) is the length I am looking for>

B = between 14mm and 18mm holes

C = between 14mm and 18mm holes

D = 72mm (+ E x 2)

E = between 10mm and 14mm

F = 50mm

Y = probably between 14mm and 18mm bolts

Z = 73mm X 25mm X 50mm (2.5mm thick RHS)

*EDITED* with the measurements i am using.

thanks for all the help

Are you making these for IFS rear springs? If so id recommend you make them 200mm eye to eye, the shackle angle is pretty much spot on.

As for B and C, measure the diameter of your pins, if your going to press them in its going to have to be a pretty tight tolerance. You could just use bolts instead and not have to worry about pressing them in.

D will be 72mm + (E x 2), just make Z 73mm long (1mm for clearance). Just measure the width of the bushes in the spring and this will give you the right size for Z.

F = 50mm

E = 10mm

I made mine from 50x10 flat bar and every step i go off the shackles smash on the rocks, still straight as a die just a little less paint :D

shackles draw attention

Post by G_loomis »

I was done by the police/dept of transport at loganholme a few weeks back and one of the things they got me on was extended shackles. While I was talking to the fun police he said (and to nearly quote word for word) "the easiest way for us to see if a 4wd has possible modifications is extended shackles...they stick out like the proverbial!"

So I have to take mine out, get the other minor (some very minor) defects fixed up and take it in to get approved........

then stick em all back in! :armsup: :armsup:
