Anyone who has done a special audio setup (or I.C.E system as you may call it), show us some pics of your mountings, where you put your gear, i would like to throw some subs in there but doesnt look like i got a whole lotta room! What kinda setups has everyone got here?

I got a great idea, for mine, just need to know where its all gunna go, check this out...

all you need is,

7" tft with 30gig HD, mp3, divx, xvid, tv tuner - Found em for $600 sounds absolutely AWESOME (www.brashimports.com.au)

4 Channel amp, 2 x 6" and 2 x 6x9"

Thats it... Maybe subs if i can figure out where they might go... dont wanna do a box cos then ill loose my very little bootspace

If you want to run a sub/subs. Remove your rear seat and use the mounting points to mount your sub box. Thats what I did for mine, but it has since been removed due to exposure to the offroad. It now sits safely in the Mrs's boot.

from what I have seen/heard, you can fit 2x 12in in the boot panel, but the most common is just 6x9's in the side panels.

I currently have the stock speakers front and rear, plus two 8in subs in boxes (removable)... running off an amp hidden under the drivers seat. (it fits, but you might need to remove the seat to wedge it into the seat-frame.
oh.. and I have a 4x50 clarion head unit.

Found that on ebay, didnt have the cash but it went $550 inc. postage and noone bid on it! He said he will have them in about 2 weeks time, ill be getting one for sure and let you know how it goes

An option speaker wise would be as follows, thats relatively simple to install.

Stick with a set of either 6" or 5 1/4" splits for the front, mounted onto premade pods, mounted on the bottom corner of the doors. Then just use a 10" sub that mounts in a small sealed enclosure. I have a Boston Acoustic 10" Sub that is designed for an enclosure with external dimensions of 11"x11"x7" So they don't need to take up much room at all. Powered by an appropriate amplifier, you will get a better sound then that of your proposed set up.

i went for a set of pioneer 4inch splits in the front orginal enclosure with sound dedening behind it and 2 JL 6x9's in the read panels mounted on mdf for some decent sounds. These run of a 4x50w alpine amp. Then there is a 10" MTX sub in a box in the boot running off a 2x50w Kicker amp. Both amps are squeezed under the drivers seat. A Kenwood cd/mp3 unit with ipod attachment runs the system.
I have been very tempted to throw one of my 3 xbox's in the car with a nice tft, A moded xbox using xbmc (xbox media center) is the best entertainment system ive seen and ive tested a lot.
$150 for a refurbished xbox from EB, $70 for a mod chip, big harddrive if you want to fill it up with games/movies/music. $50 for a power inverter. and a tft and it will 100% better then that media player.
GF talked me out of the xbox way saying too much sand and electronics dont mix so i went for the ipod option instead.

Heres my subs........ boot & back seats went out the window years ago!
I have Pioneer 6x9 4 ways in the rear, set of jvc 6x4's in the front (where the standards go) running through a jvc mp3 player.. The 2 10" Alpine type s are run by a kicker 2x100w amp bridged...... Sounds pretty good!

JB has a noice 4 x 55 JVC for $200 might well grab that... and the 30gig multimedia players should be in monday or tuesday! Ill let yas know bout that one too...

Oh yeah i did that in my charade, got reported by a parking inspector i think, and had to take it to the registry for an inspection :( Quickly put the seats back in and passed but they said there were reports the back seats were missing!

Goto Jaycar, Ghet some bass engines for about $30.00 each. Mount them under the seats..

i was an audio installer for 8 years, i put a prity big competition system in my Mr2 and plan do a small system in the feroza after i've done the other stuff i am doing at the moment.
will include a relocated Head unit (gotta get a cd player, i dont own any tapes!!!), i'll make some custom door pods for 6.5" splits, and either 2 x 8" subs in custom enclosures in the rear side panels or a nice set of 7 x 10" Kenwoods and a nice 4 channel amp.

ill grab you some photos of my door i am almost finished doing

ive removed the cardboard / masonite door covers and replaced them with checkerplate, and installed jaycar 6.5' kevlar splits .
looks the goods

everything is mounted now. just finished sound deadening one door, with dynamat extreeme sound deandener. when i get time ill do the other door, then wire it up to my amp and hopefully it will all be worth it.
been driving around with no music for 2 weeks now :(

Nice job. Did you fasten all the panels with screws into the metal behind?

what weight chequer plate did you use? your doors would be pretty strong now.

I wanted to do the chequer, bur was sure it would be too heavy - have just done it all in plywood and am using the 'fake' chequerplate roll on top :-)

yep. fastened all the panels with countersunk screws.
turned out pretty nice
its aluminium checkerplate so it isnt that much heavyier then the standard panels mabye 4-5 kg overall for all 5 panels combined.
its 3mm thick checkerplate and cost me $95 for a sheet 2400mm X 1200mm.

which i thought was a pretty good price.
the speakers are high and further in so it does not interfeer with your feet
there up and out of the way ... thats how i wanted it .


for tools i just used a grinder jigsaw and a file ... pretty easy.

final cost was about $110 once you took into account the screws and drill bit. thats both front doors . both rear panels and the the rear door
pretty good mod if you ask me
very pleased with how it turned out.

Sony AM FM CD Changer Controller Head Unit.
Kenwood 12 band graphic equalizer with 2 parametric EQ bands plus subwoofer controller.
2, 12" Boston Acoustic Pro Series Subwoofers in custom enclosure behind the rear seat.
2, MB Quartz 5 1/4" Midrange Drivers in the front door panels.
2, MB Quartz 1" tweeters mounted high up on the doors just opposit the side view mirrors.
2, Boston Acoustic Pro series 5 1/4" Midrange Drivers mounted on custom side panels next to the rear seats.
2, Boston Acoustic Pro series 1" tweeters.
200 watt Soundstream amplifier for the Boston seperate speakers mounted under the passenger seat.
400 watt 4 channel Precision Power amplifier for the MB Quartz mounted under the rear seat.
1000 watt Crossfire amplifier running mono for the Boston Subs mounted under the rear seat.
1.0 farad Capacitor to allow more power to the Crossfire Amplifier and to keep all of my lights from dimming when I'm really pounding the system mounted inside the car on top of the rear wheel-well.

im planning on building one but i want it to be as small as possible.
mabye a 10inch sub

for my amplifier i am going to mount them inside the rear panels and screw them to the checkerplate. so ill have to get all the settings right before i screw the panel back on :(
but at least it will be out of the way and unseen by petty thieves

I would HIGHLY recommend you put some kind of fan in there for your amp. I was thinking of putting amps behind the rear panels also but decided not to because I think they would over heat. Also with my experience building enclosures, don't seal the entire box air-tight. Allow a small hole like where the wires enter to allow for alltitude changes while your driving up and down mountains. If you think your shampoo bottle explodes after opening it on top of a mountain, think of how much less cone excursion you have with your speakers in a sealed enclosure.

Senergy:
The cap makes a HUGE difference. I ran the system without it and there was dimming of headlights and muddy bass etc. I listen to a lot of movie soundtracks where there is much more low end sound than the typical top-40 song and the capacitor adds all the power necessary that my battery just physically can't provide. If anyone is running a high power amp., I guarantee you'll almost double your amps power by adding a good cap. and cables. (Get good power and ground cables first or it's useless)

Again, to anyone who cares, a capacitor gives your amplifier the power it needs on-demand. A car battery is incapable of doing this, car batteries aren't built to do this.

Another point I'd like to make to anyone thinking of adding an extra battery hoping it'll make their system louder. An extra battery would only be good for listening to your system with the car off. With the car on, it's just another load that the alternator sees robbing you of precious power you need for your system. Don't get an extra battery if you listen to your system while driving most of the time.
