Rangie in the 2005 Ateco 22nd-24th July

Post by Ossie »

For better or worse I have received approval from the Minister for War, Investment, Finance & Expenditure (WIFE) after submitting the required application in triplicate, with appropriate fee <cough> bribe <cough> to enter the 2005 Ateco. (this is regardless that our application had already been approved by the organisers!).

After seeing some of the tracks, I believe this is going to be a nasty event and in all probability I will break my first cv. Any suggestions on how to best appease the Rangie gods? Sacrifice a Nissan or two before the event?

Anyway if anybody is around say g’day, my wife and don’t take these competitions too seriously and always have time for a talk.

Well Jason I will see you on the sat some time. Our stage is pretty easy no winching (unless you stuff it up bad) and very little chance of a broken CV.

Fit some AEU2522 CV's that have been heat treated by Sam with Maxi-Drive flanges. You have MD inner axles don't you?

I'll be there as well.

Will be helping the Southern Race Gear Series 3 Landy...

Should be ready soon, in time for a test run. This is one of or the most awesome Landys out there! He should do faily well is everything holds together.

I think there are about 5 or so rangies this year, should be great.

Well the stress of preparation has been dealt with, the vehicle passed scrutineering last night. Just have to organise a complete spare vehicle to raid for parts and I am away. ;) .

Looking at the list of entrants last night it should be in interesteing event for the Rovers,

The Tiggr mobile, where just there for the experience,

Kermut – running Gu diffs, gearbox, steering box, 5.2lt rover v8 and king coilovers all round ( I did hear the question last night ‘Is this a rangie body on a Nissan chassis?’ :D ),

Smithi – rumour is he has now got hilux centres after breaking diff centres in the OBC 2005 and Aterco 2004,

Southern Race gear Landy as detailed above,

Steve Fowler – apparently running a new engine with efi now and ,

Matt Fenner in his Rangie

Hi..

I've put the pics and moofies I took from the day up at
http://timbot.org/photos/4x4-Ateco-2005/

It was a Nissan GQ event! I don't know the result but 3/4 of the cars there seemed to be GQ's. Everyone was breaking diffs I heard....

This is also a thread at

Going into the event I had heard a rumour that Rangies may break diffs under certain situations.....

On our 8th stage for the weekend I confirmed the rumour and broke my rear R&P . We managed to winch limp through the rest of the stage and we did not have the worst time..

Once again my wife and I were having a great time, and we learnt a lot and met some great people.

Here is a pic of Glen and the Landy taken by Chippa...

http://www.holeshotimages.com/Hotshots/ateco7.jpg

Ive got quite a lot of pics, i just have to resize them sometime.

Glen & Mark came 17? overall, and won SS11.

They DNS'd 3 stages, which didnt help due to breakages.

Overall the car did well.
