five speed box's the same for gq/gu???

Post by fatassgq »

Hey all just wondering if anyone knows for certain if a gq transmission and transfer will bolt up to a 4.5 l gu motor?

Been told the transmissions on the 4.5's are different by one person and another fella says they should be the same bolt pattern.

Anyone know for sure.

If the five speeds are different does that mean that a gq transfer case will not bolt up to it???

cheers for any info.

Looks like it :D

I hope that the gearbox patterns are the same as I want my transfer case (with marks gears) to bolt up.

If anyone has any more concrete info let me know.

cheers

Ithought they where the same the only difference was that in some of the GU's the ratio was different between engines.
Only thing likly to be different is the bell housing. But since the TB42 is same as a TD42 would assume that the TB45 and TB48 are the same also.

The GQ TD42 and TB42 bellhousing's are not the same as I have just put a 94' TB42e motor into my 88' diesel shorty and I had to use the 94' bellhousing because the TD42 one diddn't fit...

Bugger I thought they where the same. Ok thanks for that.
As I am also thinking about as another option for me is the TB42e at some stage.

correct petrol bell housings are different, but also, the sifter locations between GQ and GU are different,

GQ box in a GU puts the shifter under the heater box,

transfer should bolt up, we swapped a transfer form an RD28 box to a TD42 box, no dramas,
