chev diesel who has one

Post by adamj1300 »

just wanting to know from an owner of a gu 99 td 2.8
to any one who has one or knows any one who has one, are they worth it or just go with the 4.2 upgrade instead of the v8 chev. i am a carpenter by trade so i tow a trailer about 900 kgs to a 1T daily & have a 21 offroader to go on holidays with.
what sort of economy can i expect from either engine & which would be the best up grade.

ps am not chnging the Vehicle regardless, of $

thank u

A mate had a 6.5 supercharged chev diesel in a 60 series cruiser. We both drove from Sydney to texas ( near Stanthorpe QLD) I was in a 2.4 turbo diesel surf and he only used $8 more in fuel than me and he was towing a off road camper.

If you are going to spend the dollars in upgrading to a new engine then go the 6.5 diesel. A bloke up here in Brissy does them for around $15K. This includes supply, fitting and engineering.
My Cruiser is Environmentally Friendly.

It runs on recycled Dinosaurs.

4.2 will be craploads cheaper.

You wont get out of a V8 diesel coversion for less than 10K. Might save a bit if you do all the work yourself.

surely a 4.2 could be put in for less than 6k?

Should be able to put a chev engine in for well under 10k. ;)
