Hi guys,

Looking around at getting ahilift Jack and was wondering if they are all pretty much of a muchness or are some brands useless and others the way to go.

Waiting your advice and experirences.

Only buy an original http://www.hi-lift.com/ from ARB

Keep in mind they are very dangerous and care must be taken when they are being used
Weekdays - Prado GXL D4D with some stuff
Weekends - Mav shorty with lots of stuff

Worst advice ive ever heard....use the cheap ones once or twice and it will bend/break the pins :?

Buy a real "Hi-Lift" it will last forever. Ive used mine a heap of times and its one of the most used things in my recovery kit.

If u just want it for BLING buy the cheapie, but if u want one u can use buy the "Hi-Lift".

I've got both an original HiLift and a no-name one - the no-name one came with a ute, seized from being in weather - once i greased it it worked beautifuly - te original Hi-lift doesn't go down properly, i have to manually move the pin out to go down, but it prob needs the same over-haul treatment. Also the up/down flick switch snapped of (cast metal) - can still use but PITA - need a screwdriver to switch to down mode.
I should just fix it, but very lazy - more important things to do.

two hilifts so far have benefitted from this advice.

if they struggle to go down, and you have to manually move the pin, just get some silicone spray and spray liberally, then move it up and down a few times with some load on it, repeate until it works smoothly

I bought the long one and it's great. Kaymar also do a Hi-Lift/Shovel holder that bolts to your roof rack which is excellent as well.

I bought a no-name one (well, I haven't noticed a name on it) from Auto-One for $90 and use it all the time. It is the only jack I have.

Hi lifts can be dangerous when used by idiots (read: people who have not carefully considered what they are trying to achieve).

I am happy with the $90 layout, it has served me well and continues to do so.

P.S. Every time I use it I wonder if a large jacking plate with bolts through it used (with nuts) to go through the base of the jack to stabilise the jack would mean that I could lift one end (instead of one corner) of the vehicle without it tipping over. Scepticism/better things to do always wins and I have not tried it.

On a GQ LWB, where do you guys store them other than the rear door setup - I'm a little stressed about the 35 on the back door let alone adding a high lift tot he weight...

No roof rack!

Any other options? besides the interior? :armsup:

i keep mine under the back seat, it fits in nicely, you could always make some mounts and secure it on top of your bullbar, but if it protrudes forward it will not be legal

any reputable branded hi-lift SHOULD have an AS #### number on it.
I can't remember what this Australian standard # is at the moment.. but a google search should be able to give you an idea what to look for.

Mine sits across the car just inside the rear doors, easy to get to there.

spend ya dollars and get some quality.

But before you outlay, consider what you're using it on... got anywhere to lift?? Most modern 4wd are not compatible with a high lift.

IMO the BEST is the Jackall brand Hi Lift, (made in Canada I think). I have used the one sold by ARB (original Hi lift) and a few others, but the Jackall is better - no cast handle attachment point, has a better handle retention (doesn't need the silly clip). And generally a bit easier to use.

I think TJM or opposite lock sell them (not sure). They are usually a few $ more than the ARB one but worth it. I got mine from Performance Offroad in Brisbane.
