Zook starter

Post by nicbeer »

Hey,

I have a similar problem to bad_religion_au in my zook, and i am thinking of fixing it the same way for now.

problem: Some days when trying to start it does not even go click other times it starts fine.

On the days of no click i can jumper a wire between the +'ve batt and small terminal on starter for a few seconds, it will then start on the key fine from then on. Seems to be after not driving it for a while. not sure on this one.

Any ideas...

thanks

Nic

not many, as i haven't sorted mine yet. i suggest that you check all the terminals and connections in the circuit and give them a cleanup... hope it's easier than mine,

also might be an idea to get some voltage readings etc when it's playing up.

When it won't click, does anything else work? Lights, radio etc?

when it won't start, have you tried turning your headlights on and seeing if they dim when you turn the key?

They don't seem too. First time it happened i had lights on when going to start. did not seem to dim, i could not hear the solinoid clicking either. It was only a hunch that bridging the terminals would start it.

Sounds like your solenoid is sticking. Next time it won't click find something like a length of waterpipe, and give the solenoid (NOT the starter motor) one good thump. Better still, have an assistant hold the key and you give the solenoid one or more good thumps.

If it springs to life after a good thump, remove the starter and then disassemble, clean and reassemble the solenoid. Check the motor brushes for meat while it's out; from memory, Lithium grease is recommended when reassembling.

Good luck,

Scott
