Gday,
We have run in to a small problem while on holidays. We had a 2nd hand diff put in to the car, and i reckon we are now going thru fuel quicker.
We are in a 1985 Toyota Bundera (RJ72)
The old diff was a LSD, while the new one is not (all that could be sourced in Hawker). Do these diffs have a different ratio, therefore causing our fuel problems? Is there any thing else that could be the cause?
Any help will be much appreciated.
PS, we are writing this from an internet machine thing at Arkaroola so wont be able to check this for another day or two.

Diff Ratios in a Bundera???
Moderators: toaddog, Elmo, DUDELUX
it's certainly possible - there's about 10 different ratios and about 5 that are readily available that would bolt straight into a bundera. a stocker petrol would have 4.30 or 4.56 as standard but it's possible if an older hilux diff has been installed it has a 4.875 ratio in it now - it would have awesome pickup but will rev high on the freeway. to tell if the front and rear diffs are mismatched, put it in 4WD on a gravel surface and try to drive forward in a straight line - if the front and rear diffs are different ratios it will hop and scrabble and be absolutely awful to drive. be careful cost it could cause damage to other driveline components if you do it on a hard surface.
