Re: Haultec treated CV's
I can only treat your Second hand ones. At a cost of $150 each plus freight. These would need to be cleaned totaly before we receive them.bad_religion_au wrote:Does anyone know if they make these for the 1976-whatever cv's out of the 40 series cruisers? their the first of the cruiser fine splines, and run the longer freewheeling hub.

You are much better off converting to late model Free wheeling hubs (Aisin) and running our new NTN later style CVs. At a cost of $300 each plus delivery. These are proving to be a much better option. Have sold around 20 sets since TTC and not had a single failure. I broke one of these NEW NTN cvs at TTC but would have to put it down to a manufacturing fault as i had not realy given it a hard enough time to damage it. Adrian(POS) has been running the same pair of our CVs for the last 2 rounds of W.E.Rock without a failure. They still dont even make noise.
There GROUSE
..... still going stong in mine and I've had them out just recently for a check to see how they were going and they look still brand new, no marks or anything on them. So I repacked with grease and whacked 'em back in.
I don't abuse my car but I don't pussy it either but in the past I have detroyed the standard CV's and broken a set of Longs before getting the Haultecs

hmmm things to definately think about.
the CV's being treated, does it matter what solvent is used to clean them? i'm definately tempted by the thought of converting to the aisin hubs while i'm at it, i'm sick of smashing the warns too.
might dive into the budget and see what i can work out.
thanks.

If you are allready breaking the Warn hubs with Stock CVs then you need to upgrade to aisin hubs. If i treat your CVs with the longer stub shaft you cant then convert to the aisin hubs as the longer stub shaft wont allow you to fit the aisin hubs.
Clean your CVs with anything as long as they turn up with no grease in them i dont care. It wont effect the heat treating Process. I just hate having to clean the grease out of them. While you have them apart make sure the cage is not chipped and the star or bell is not badly dented by the balls.

thanks ruff. this weekend has really got me thinking, i'm unlocked in the front but starting to smash cv's and hubs already.
how does the failure rate go over time, i.e. if i get a heat treated set now and run them with aisin hubs, and run them for a year or so then get a locker, am i wasting my money, or do they stand up to wear fairly well.

These new ones seam to be performing well. As HG has said above he just inspected his and there were no signs of wear. He is locked and has had them for a few months now.bad_religion_au wrote:thanks ruff. this weekend has really got me thinking, i'm unlocked in the front but starting to smash cv's and hubs already.

hate to ask so many questions, but is there another common weakness in the front end (course spline pinion?, inner axle?) that the problems move too? or is it a case of it's all pretty much right, and depending on the circumstances is what breaks next.
just thinking out loud, because a set of freewheeling hubs is easier to carry and change than a 3rd.

Inner axle is the next weak point. Sorry we dont do a strengthened inner axle. But generaly they are plenty strong compared to stock CVs.bad_religion_au wrote:hate to ask so many questions, but is there another common weakness in the front end (course spline pinion?, inner axle?) that the problems move too? or is it a case of it's all pretty much right, and depending on the circumstances is what breaks next.

haultec
I've got a set but i'm yet to give em a caning

Lockers or Knockers ,both will make for fun.

Re: Haultec treated CV's
Just a bit of an Edit here as i only realised Today that the Lockless was running a pair of Second Hand CVs that had been treated. We have just had the front axle apart in it to re-fit the LSD(I broke a front Centre at TTC and fitted an open to get it going again) and the RF CV was found to be a Treated second hand one. So i would say in the heat of the moment when trying to get this thing ready someone fitted it with Second Hand CVs not NEW ones. I didnt put the front axle together. And at TTC we didnt even look at the CV we broke it was just replaced as fast as we could.RUFF wrote:Have sold around 20 sets since TTC and not had a single failure. So to this date not one of these new ones has been broken.
Also worked out today we have sold around 30 NEW NTN Toyota ones and 20 NEW NTN nissan ones. Most of the guys buying these are guys that have been breaking a CV every time they go out.
If you break one of our CVs please dont hessitate to call us. We are always happy to work out a deal on a replacement.
