Teraflex Pneumatic T-Locker

Post by planb »

been reading about the new teraflex selectable locker.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/articles/tech/ ... R-T_locker

Unlike the ARB, this thing uses two airlines per locker to lock and unlock the diff.

it can be set up to keep the diff locked or unlocked in the event of a pressure leak, like when you snag an air line. so when the air pressure is lost, instead of loosing your locked diff, it will remain locked, until you fix your air leak and disengage it.

this is good for comp work, where you dont have time to fix an air leak.

but the extra air line (2 per diff) would double your chances of getting the lines snagged.

and damn, how long would that air cylinder on the diff cover last ?

im stoked that there is more choice nowadays for lockers, but im not to sure on this one.

what do you guys think ?

would you buy this over an arb ?

Cant see it doubling the chance to snag an air line unless you run it in two different ways..........figure it snags one its also got the other. :D

Besides a bit of forethought can avoid snagging lines and damaged diff caps such as fixing air lines to existing brake line or breather line setups and diff hats protectors.

These are also "E" lockers that activates and disengages through an electric switch, but i don’t like the idea of wiring your diff to ya battery.

Competition is good.

Maxi-Drives have 3 lines (2 vacuum and diff breather) going to them and they don't get damaged any more often than ARB lines. Maxi-drives can also be locked in one position like the teraflex, and if you are really keen can be engaged/disengaged by sucking on the appropriate line.

Yes but it is an overcomplicated waste of time and money that requires heaps of housing mods to fit. I can't believe Santana were that stupid.

To fit it the diff pan needs to be cut off, a huge hole must be cut in the LHS, and that plate at the bottom of the picture must then be welded on. And to top it all off, the new pan is held on by cap-head bolts that aren't captive  No thanks.

Reason I was interrested is I'm hoping to swap my axle case in the autumn and so could build all this into the 'new' case, and its less money than some of the other lockers.

But like you say swapping my ARB into the front will be a lot simpler and I've only just finished plumbing in small scale co2 to provide totally electric free operation.
