ok looking into this for a friend, who's looking to swap a hilux front axle into his ferroza and needs the 5.29 diffs to match his rear.
people are saying these are weak etc... well who's run them, who has or hasn't broken them, and what combo wheels motor chassis/body were you running. just seeing.
oh and am i right in assuming that lux lockers will fit these centers

Spit my last breath
In my opinion based on personal experience, the 5.29's found in HiAce are unlikely to be quite as as robust as the aftermarket Lux replacments (the crownwheel in HiAce 5.29's is considerably thinner, plus age).
If you are looking for STRONG 5.29's you can't buy better than YUKON GEAR, ex US. You pay a little more but ya get whats ya spends.
There is much conjecture as to how much weaker 5.29's are from 4.88's and below in real world application; in my experience and estimation - some but not necessarily significantly so. This opinion follows from Surf with 5MGE, 5.29's, Marlin Crawler 2x2.28, front/rear difflocks, 35" Simex ET's. Have busted more CV's than I've had hot dinners, but never had a 5.29 shit itself yet (including the HiAce stock). The real secret to maximise diff stength is make sure they are set up precisely, with good supporting bearings, correct meshing and backlash.
Have made the transition to Yukon Gear kit with pending 1KZTE transplant, Longfield 30 spline super axle set, chromoly rear axles, and 37-38" Creepies. Time will tell.

Mind if I ask what the damage for the Yukon gear set was?Leithfield wrote:In my opinion based on personal experience, the 5.29's found in HiAce are unlikely to be quite as as robust as the aftermarket Lux replacments (the crownwheel in HiAce 5.29's is considerably thinner, plus age).
