winches.Pros and cons
Being new to offroad comp's, i would like to ask for so advice on the pros and cons on winches. I was looking at putting a low mount winch in for competing, knowing i will not be competitive for some time while i get use to comps and my truck as they say you have to crawl before you can walk. Is this the right way to go?
Kind regards.

Most comp cars use Highmount's (Warn) so if you can afford it go for one of them . They have a faster speed which is what its all about. If you're stuck for cash then you could go the low mount and use those cowhorn's on your bar to thread your line around (saves winding it all back in/out) One of the other advantages of the highmouont is that you can use synthetic line 'cos the brake isn't in the drum (although some low mounts now have ext brakes) One major prob is mounting a highmount usually requires mods to the bar. I could go on but thats enough for starters. Have a search and you'll find more info.
Hey champ if you are stuck for cash then a low mount for now is the way to go but if you shop around for a little bit you might come across a good second hand highmount which should get you into the mid range of competitiveness in winch challenge comps. A brand new low mount will set you back $1000 and a second hand highmount will cost you the same but it is a better starting point than a low mount for future comp mods..
