Motor options **update**

Post by LTDHO »

I know it seems this topic has been done to death but I think this will be a little different.

The vehile is a Sept 1990 Vitara with 1.6 carby. The whole vehicle is stock.

I don't want hill climber, or dyno beast.

I want something that accelerates (not as fast as my LTD) but better. I don't want to make the efficancy worst.

Now I read the Hilux bits are the way to go but I only want about 100fwhp. Well I want as much as the standard driveline (turning 30.5's) will handle.

Is there a motor that will suit my neads and easy to fit?
Or will I have to turbo?

Cheers

Keep the Carby engine, and just get the 8V EFI intake manifold and supercharge it with a 4AGZE supercharger.

The lower compression of the Carby engine would be of benefit here.

This would also work out about as cheap as any other engine swap and probably a lot less work and $$$$ than most.

otherwise you have the options of stuff like 16V vitara, 2 litre 16V vitara, Baleno 1.8 etc.

Anything outside of those options is gonna be hard to do due to lack of conversion kits and the "all-in-one" arrangement of the gearbox and transfer case.

If you were to go for somethign different a SR20 turbo or similar would be the go.

mmmm.... turbo it. You have bad luck with belt driven air pumps!! The exhaust manifold would have to fall off for it to stop pumping!!

Looks like forced induction is the way to go...

The other problem with the current motor is the water leak :( I think it's the block!

With the leak in your block have you checked the welsh plugs.

Have a look at this http://wildcatent.freeyellow.com/zookmods/ for a 8v turbo build. The builder is Wildgoody on zukiworld.com

Thanks for the link cj, had a good read.

I will check and hope the welch plugs are the leak.

Being the I want as much power the trans will handle. What is the suggested turbo for this?

Mazda 323 or TX3?

What else are there?

err.. the tx3 and 323 turbo are one of the same :D
(Suzuki enthusiast 1st, dabble in the MAzda /b-Series for a lil funtop)

Seriously though i'd be going something sub-2lt engine... maybe the toyota starlet turbo? (it's like a 1.3L too)

Mazda/Tx3 stuff is usually grossly inflated in value (kind of like Suzukis! :P)

Ok, slight change in thought here.

The Welch Plug on the side of the motor below the intake and above the starter is leaking big time.

Now I could just pop it out and put in a new one but the engine is getting on, so I am thinking of another motor.

I have just been told that there are 2.0 carby motors for these at the importers. Not sure if this is true (can someone confirm?) and now I want to put the 2.0 in it.

Does anyone know whether this will work?
Can I get a EFT motor and put my standard carby on it?

By the way I have a T2 turbo lined up for whichever motor I decide to run.
