ct12 turbo?

Post by jcianci »

i got a ct12 of a mate who is putting more mumbo in his soarer
the question is what is the most economical way of incorporating this turbo into my zook is. Im keen on starting with the cheapest block possible which im guessing would be the 1.3. i have faith that a well built standard motor with lowered compression should cope with the turbo ok. I have seen carbied turbo set ups but this will mean i cant use an intercooler. Any suggestions would be great.

If using the 1.3.

Get the single point injection first then look at the turbo stuff.

cheers

turbo

Post by benjamin78au »

ask zooker1500 , on these forums, he has a turboed gti motor, and i believe it goes pretty well. (still waiting for a ride or drive danny)

Takes a lot of effort, and the boost can come on if not expecting it up hill can cause a lot of wheel spin.

i looking more in to super. but chase your mates intercooler when they want to upgrade it. as u can use them, heheheh.

I have the same turbo bolted on the side of my 1.3ltr.
I have used the single point injection setup of the 8 valve vitara motor.
The little turbo works a treat,Comes on boost pretty much straight away off idle.
I would definatley suggest lowering the compression a bit though.
I thought i would tyr with out lowering mine and pretty much blew the head gasket within the first couple of drives..

I got the option of buying a single point injection kit for my sierra for 750
the questions are....

Will the standard computer cope?
If it doesnt... is there anything i can do to make it cope? eg: chip the computer, bigger injector, rising rate regulator.

What boost will the standard engine cope with?
the reason i ask this is because as compression goes down, i loose the off- boost torque.

I have seen a high compression motor in a nissan exa with 6 pound boost and it made 150kw at the treads so there must be soemthing to this idea.
Im just toying with the idea of keeping the compression standard. Ill also keep the fuel economy.

If any of this is wrong please help me out, at the moment im just brain storming.

well if you keep the compression standard then see if you can get GTi rods and crank as they are forged and it will give some strength

As for lowering the compression i say go for a Vitara g16a head. The slightly bigger chamber volume would drop the ratio down (if i could take measurements of a real head i could tell you exactly how much :)

also the head would already have
-bigger valves
-Better flowing
-a cam designed to cope with an extra 300cc (not perfect but better than stock surely)

Just some ideas :)

a higher compression and lower boos is the way to go, you will get alot less lag from the turbo, if the motor is tuned correctly you wont have any issues blowing anything.

Here's a few specs comparing the G13BA and the G16A. The same Torquer Cam grind spec for the 1.3 is also used in the 1.6 by some aftermarket cam suppliers.

G13BA 74mm x 75.5mm 1298cc
Comp. Ratio 9.5:1
Cyl Head Vol. 32.2 cm3
Hd Gskt Thickness 1.2mm
Cyl Block Deck Height 186.8mm
Deck Clearance 0.2mm (above block)
Min. Combustion Chamber Total Vol. 38.2cm3
Rod Length 120mm
Piston Celearance & Postion (from Crown) 0.02 @ 45.80
Compression Height 28.10mm
Intake Valve OD 36m
Exhaust Valve OD 30mm

G16A 75 x 90mm 1590cc
Comp. Ratio 8.9:1
Cyl Head Vol. 32.2 cm3
Hd Gskt Thickness 1.2mm
Cyl Block Deck Height 213.8mm
Deck Clearance 0.9mm (below block)
Min. Combustion Chamber Total Vol. 50.6cm3
Rod Length 139.6mm
Piston Celearance & Postion (from Crown) 0.02 @ 48.00
Compression Height 28.10mm
Intake Valve OD 36.6mm
Exhaust Valve OD 32.5mm

Are you sure that the Cylinder head is the same? (i take it you mean't G!3BA rather than the twincam g13b?)
i would of thought since the bore was slightly bigger the head would recipicate.

Still there is a difference in the G16 intake and a substantial in the exhaust. A€s for the cams... whats the factory spec?

oring

Post by jcianci »

if i could get my compression down to about 8.5 :1 then i would be getting a decent trade off between off boost torque and power up top. i guess its all about getting a rich enough mixture into the motor, Does anyone know about oringing? Do all turbo motors need this?

Yeah, I mean't G13BA. I don't know for sure that the heads are exactly identical but I think I recall where someone has swapped it and it works. The same aftermarket cams are used in both engines but I don't know the Factory specs.

i can understand that threrte interchangeble... just a question if they are identical... cause if nt swapping a vitara head with a sierra would be a good idea.. The vitara would get increased conpressioin (although retaining the vitara valves in a sierra head would be a good idea.) and the sierra would get decreased compression for boost.. i'll hve to check my maniuals to see if te data is in there. :D
