Thanks for the info guys. I went ahead and purchased after I got a quote for $400 for rear brake pads for the FtrUCK. Time to get something that won't break down every time it gets a whiff of dirt.
No I need an expense acount to lift it etc.

How difficult is a 4.2 swap? I may look at it sometime in the future. Mind you the EFI option also sounds OK. Nissan Skyline you reckon? I once drove one of those and it went like the clappers, mind you it wasn't trying to pull as much weight around as this.

We have put a 3l VL Turbo motor into my SWB Mav, more power than you would think. It has 175kw at the wheels, when all is running right at about 15lb boost.
I would never bother about putting a V8 in a GQ, I would just turbo them, that way you won't have quite so many teething problems and it's alot cheaper than putting a V8 in.
Believe it or not the 3l Turbo is more economical to run around town than the 4.2 petrol or diesel.

Keep talking, I'm listening very hard.
Of course the next question is how much?
Followed by how hard?
And then what do I need to perform the aforementioned operation? Exhaust naturally, engine bay mods?
Was it a standard VL Turbo engine?
Can I do a bolt on?
How much low down torque?
etc.

If you are lucky like we were we picked up the motor, turbo and wiring for $800. There wasn't too much messing around with putting the motor in the car apart from a few minor mods and getting your head around setting up the wiring.
We have fitted a 3" mandrel exhaust system with s stainless muffler.
When we had the car on the dyno first up it was producing too much boost, so we have to wind it down and build an intercooler. The turbo itself is a mystery and one thing we know is it isn't standard. At the second boost doesn't come in till about 3000rpm, but we are about to get the turbo rebuilt to boost at about 1500 rpm.
It has a fair amount of torque, can't remember how much, but we tow a triaxle trailer and LWB GQ behind it without too much effort.
Great conversion, not too many hassles and alot of fun to drive!
