Drive line replacement questions
Drive line replacement questions
The mission was to replace the old SD33 and 4 speed in the MQ wagon to either a high powered Holden V6 of V8 complete with auto, the problem is that no one makes an adaptor for the transfer case that i have (the one that bolts dierctly to gearbox), so the only option is to change the transfer case to the one that uses the small propshaft between the gearbox and transfer case, which I'm told never came on the deisel models?? (Dellow told me this), they also told me that the propshaft style case from the L28 models wont fit to the chassis of the SD33 models, not sure why, I thought that the chassis would have been the same, I would have thought that if i got hold of the propshaft case complete with mounts then it would just bolt to the chassis, but the guy's from Dellow said it wouldn't, anyone know the facts???

the divorced transfer case your talking about, was actually mounted to the bash plate if i remeber correclty, so youd have to fab up some custom mounts, or get the bash plate as well, as they had the divorced transfer in the L28 wagon, so it 'should' bolt into yours as tyhe chassis are the same other than a few brackets and shiat,
also depending on the lenght of your engine gearbox combo, with the divorced transfer, you may have to change lengths of your tail shafts,

There is hope for your auto conversion. I got an adapter for t400 to mq transfer from seaton engineering in perth contact:

It works real well and was an easy fit, and doesnt require a change of transfer. Pretty sure they do one for t700 aswell if not V6 conversions in moree nsw do.

I should add that there is a lot more to putting the auto in then originally thought. The engine ,gearbox, transfer combo was 300mm longer with the auto and adapter than the original combo with V8.
Engine had to be moved forward 100mm and transfer back 200mm, this was in a shorty could get away with just moving the transfer back 300mm in a lwb I think.
Any more questions just ask.

I dare say you will have to move transfer and get shafts modified. There is not much room in front of a V8 with only being moved 100mm forward. If it is a LWB i would move the transfer rather than the engine as moving the engine forward moves the main weight forward and affects steering etc aswell.

Yeh should be.

A solution has been found, on the weekend i checked out an l28 MK that had been smaked in the passenger front corner, $800 bucks later it was mine, it only had 168000 on it (the old man owned from new, sold it to a young bloke, 2 weeks later , el smacko), comes with all the parts I need, divorced transfercase, bashplate, small propshaft, front and back propshafts, handbrake cable, and power steering, should be able to flog the engine easy enough too.
Thanks for all your advice
