Comp style driving
I am interested in finding some areas that offer a similar challenge to some of the terrain in the winch comps. The reason being that i would like to enter a few events next year but dont want to rock up and look like a dick and not be competitive cos we dont have that sort of terrain in SA. In SA there are plenty of steep fire trails where only gravity stops you but not alot of really rutted out trails that get a mention on here. So as Vic is Closest where would be some good spots to check out or clubs to contact to get involved with trips to these areas?

This may be in the wrong section??

I have done the Border Track from The Big Desert area south and came out near Bordertown (I think??) and reckon the last section was by far the most challenging. It has big bogholes and heaps of sanddunes to provide some entertainment and is a one way track. Get a map and have a look.

What's so funny about telling you the actual name of the track. it is the Border Track.johnboy wrote:Other that being a funny focker do you know where the best sections are? Best spot to enter, how long to allow to do it etc?Know of any clubs that may be doing a trip there soon??
Cheers John
I have done it a couple of times but it is more a medium touring trip with a couple of hardish sand dune climbs. It is closed on an irregular basis and you need to check with the ranger at pinaroo for current track closures. There is a one way section just south of Pinaroo, north to south.
Just grab a couple of mates and give it a go. It is easy to find you can start up near the Murray and head south and pop out on the Western Hwy.
But for tracks that are going to be suitable for Winch Challenge type of events youwill need to travel to Melbourne and try places like toolangi, Narbethong, Warburton, Gembrook, labertouche. They are areas that have been used and closely mimic some of the stuff that are in the events
Ransom note = demand + collage
If you are talking about the Border Track just a few mates annd a away you go. As to the places around Melbourne just chheck in the trips & tracks section here. There are always trips going on to those locations. Over winter it is a bit quieter as many tracks are seasonally closed. Alternatively if you are keen just organise your own trip on here there is bound to be enough people who would go along and can give directions
