has anybody replaced the engine driven fan with a single or twin thermo setup? if so what were the results? as in does it over heat on the beach ?
did it make any diffrence to the fuel guzzling .
I am just tossing up the idea at moment because the engine fan is cracking as they do.

Have just put twin 14" Davies Craig Thermos on my LWB GQ TD42.
First thing I noticed was the noise reduction on acceleration.
Have noticed a slight power improvement. (May only be in my imagination though). Main difference has been slow uphill climbing.
Previously the temp guage would go well above 3/4 now sits just above half way on the same hill.
Haven't had it on sand yet to do a comparison.
Engine has been warming up a bit quicker during the winter aswell.

I have a twin AU setup on the Nissan radiotor - for my V8.
Very bloody noisy when they kick in.
I have found that having both thermos on one temp switch its "all or nothing" which I dont like. So I have bought another temp switch ($70) so I can wire them separate so one comes in before the other.
Before I do this, has anyone found a twin-thermo controller instead of having 2 separate ones?
While I had the TB42 the clutch fan was very good, especially after getting new fan blades (Nissan parts - dont buy cheapy fans)
I would stay with the engine fan for a TB42 but get a triple or alloy radiator.

I fitted these but totalled them on a water crossing, forgot to switch them off. Replaced them and can honestly say they are great. On thick sand temp never gets above 2/3's. Used to get quite close to red, lot more confident now. When they kick in it takes about 1 1/2 minutes to drop temp from 95C to 85C. Quite quick. On open road they hardly ever kick in.

Thanks for that, does anyone know where I can get the temp switch that Pierre used? It looks a lot simpler (reliable) than using the adjustable Davies Craig setup, which has a wire dangling in the radiator hose:Freakazoid wrote:Maybe this hepls.

Running twin thermo's now off a common temp switch, no problems rock hopping, hills, mud, beach, highway, petrol GQ with 34" tyres 4.1 diffs.
It also warms up better in the mornings too.
