I was expecting 5 - 6 mm but 10 is fine :D
That should be more than enough.
How does it mount to the chassis though? Just with the standard mounting
holes and bolts from the original crossmember?

BJ, did I read right? LEXUS-buggy? You put the 4L V8 Quad-cam into
your landee?? Nice one bruvva!! That's 208 Kw on tap isn't it??

Bart

yeah with everyone going down the lightness trend and using aluminium 4 cylinders, i wanted light, but i h8 4 cylinders and wanted to stay with an 8  drop a rat in there. BUT by landee do you mean landeecruiser!! I hope so!! ;)

actually bootiefab engineering built it, but with many many thanks to ruff hilux, strange rover and bj, it was done quickly and easily.

ruff had all the gear, i had the car to pick it all up, sam had the gear to fab it and between ruff and me and sam there was enough know-how to go around

cheap too.

pics are coming

But of course BJ. I wouldn't waste my time posting stuff about
land rovers! Go the land cruisers!

How good do those lexus V8s sound? My mates mum has a LX400
with the same motor and it hammers. We've been to 230kph in it and we
still had another thou left on the taco. Seriously smooth motor.

How are they for reliabilty though? How will they cope with being half under water?? And will one fit into my lux?

I will answer all questions in order. To the best of my ability.

Good, cruisers kick ass.

Excellent. I beleive the LX400 does not exist, there is two vehicles that sound similar:
LS400
LX470 maybe it is one of those two variants.

230kph, would have been in the second top gear as the top gear has a speed cutoff.

How many RPMs did your mates mums one do? They are smooth alright.

VERY VERY reliable, more so than a chev or ford motor, with a 6 bolt mains and overbuilt internals they are an excellent motor and getting a 6 month warranty off the boat from Japan is not uncommon, not only that they are fully waterproof with every electrical plug having triple seals, whereas the nissans have none. This motor would handle anything you could throw at it. Its cheap, fuel efficient, makes bucket loads of power, and will fit in your lux easily. In fact im running a hilux transfer case. ;)

Sorry BJ I meant LS400. The LX is the Lexus cruiser aint it?

I wasn't driving, but I coulda sworn we were over 200.
But oh so smoooooooooooooth. We were at about 5000 RPM,
but it certainly sounded (and felt) like it had more in it not sure
where the red started (I've never actually driven it ).

How much are the motors? What fabbing needs to be done to
fit one to an 89' RN105 lux? And where is the best place to source
one. Might start researching this one. Thanks BJ.

I've just sent an email asking my mate where his mums LS redlines.
I'll let you know...

if you want to buy just the plate and nothing else you will have to do it soon, the full kit should be about 4 weeks off now - once it is out the current plate only deal is gone forever

if you want one pm me now - as another 8 will be cut this week.
