Snorkel on the drivers side for a Surf/Hilux

Post by HG »

I'm looking at dual snorkels and I already have a Safari snorkel on the passenger side. Can I get a Safari snorkel for the drivers side.
Cheers
Andrew

Hey ANDREW try a AIRFLOW snorkel they are cheap and flow the same as a safari they are in melb someware just GOOGLE AIRFLOW and you will find them   :)
Lockers or Knockers ,both will make for fun.

I looked into this when I put the Lexus V8 in as my airbox swapped sides in the engine bay, and nobody makes a snorkel to suit.

The only way I could see to do it, was either 3" stainless ones, or adpat 97+2004 model hilux ones to fit as they come out on different sides for petrol and desiel. But it would mean buying two new snorkels, which starts to get $$$.

I was wondering how long you'd wait Andrew..... ;)

Good idea about the later model snorkels, I'm SURE you could adapt them to fit mate (Rubber trim & sikaflex!) :D
BIG.PAT
'92 Surf 2.4 TD 5 speed.
More Boost, Intercooled),
Body & sup lifts, 31x10.5 Simex M/Ts (Bigger soon) & Big Boomin Stereo!

More to come when the $$$$ sum.....

Thanks guys, I'll most likely get another Safari (94-96 petrol model I've been told is on the right side) and adapt that to suit my car.
Since I slotted the V8 in running LPG the snorkel has been plumbed up using a GQ air cleaner hat that has restricted the air flow dramatically.
I have had it at a mates dyno shop and we worked out that it needs another air intake put into the air cleaner hat to flow like it should (we did this by butchering another air cleaner and adapting another "flexable length" snorkel to it and did it make a difference  (looked crap though).
So I'll see if I can do a Safari on the right side.

There is no aftermarket Snorkle available for a 89-96 hilux to fit the drivers side. Petrols had the snorkle on the Passenger side as well. Only option is a custom tube one.

A little off topic but what Engine are you Running Andrew? When you bought the CVs off us i just presumed it was a diesel :?

Bummer about the Hilux rhs snorkel, thanks Nick I'll check out Suprasurf to see what he has done.
Tony it's a 308 (mild) on LPG, I did the V8 swap mainly for work reasons as I tow a trailer all day during work hours and it just makes it smooth as plus it doesn't work hard at all.
Offroad it's sweet as & I've found that I can lope up hills/rocks with ease but I don't give it a hiding (I know I could smash the drive train at will), and your CV's are going grouse. I have taken them out a couple of times since getting them to check how everything is going and they get a big  .
The reason why I asked about the dual snorkels was that I have just gone with LPG for the engineer, wereas when it was on petrol with my Toyota/K&N filter plus snorkel the motor was great and I hardly had to touch the throttle and it was the same on LPG with only the normal air cleaner on.
When I set up the snorkel through the GQ air cleaner hat that fully encloses the air cleaner element (got it through OzGAS) the air flow suffered big time and after mucking around at a mates workshop we can get it back to how it was.
Just out of interest I'm getting 17.4 ltrs per 100 kms on LPG while towing a trailer around.
Cheers
