hmmm...you make a good point. If you went that way you would/could run the Pajero motor and gearbox and mate it to the Rover TC. Yes it certainly would......................
A Gen 2 lwb has a 107" wheelbase so would be perfect to cut down to around 100" into a ute.
A good platform would be a 3.5 SOHC around 190Hp (tickled up can make 250Hp easily) with the stronger running gear (bigger gearbox, t/case with 3.15's, rear axles and 9.5" rear diff).
You could 5 link the rear (for good flex & high speed handling) and SAS the front either a 3 link for reliability and handling or 5 link for shear flex. If strength is an issue then a cut down GU front axle (9.25" diff) would be the go, you could run the Nissan 4.88's with a Mitsi rear 4.90. Or for maximum front clearance a cut down 80 Series axle (8" HP diff) with HD CV's (80 CV's are about 30% bigger than a Lux).
Of course running 35-37's with an ARB front and factory Mitsi rear locker with a cage.
One thing is guaranteed there would be no shortage of people coming over to have a look and a chat to say well done for doing something different

yes guys i have seen one it was for sale at deal makers in rockhampton central Queensland for while it was the light green colour but the down fall was a full lenght alloy tray but other that it looked sweet.

True the Rover t/case has better gearing options but 3.15's will be available for the Mitsu case and they run lower diffs standard.
Lots of people go on about Rover cases but out of all the t/cases I've seen fail Rovers would be number 1. I'm still to be convinced about any conversion using Rover parts which is an upgrade.
I'd like to know output shaft diameters & gear dimensions etc of a Rover case to compare to a 3.5 Mitsi case (27 spline, 29 mm output shaft diameter and Patrol size gears).
