will 4L60 or T700 autos fit 253V8

Post by Elmo »

guys just organised delivery of a 253 to go in my hilux and was planning on putting in a TH350 auto behind it, but dellowes just sold the last adaptor on me minutes before i rang them back saying i definately wanted it

and now i've got no way to fit a TH350 box to a hilux T-case

SO... question is, will either a 4L60 or a t700 auto box bolt straight up to a turbo pattern 253 V8???

or does someone have one of the old adaptors to suit TH350 to hilux t-case

OK for starters I am not a holden fan and know fark all about them but I think holden motors only come with 2 different bolt patterns. Either the turbo (all turbo boxes have same pattern) bolt pattern or a ???? (chev????) bolt pattern. So there for I would say yes. Ruff will be able to answer this one 100%.

the two types of bolt patterns are turbo (chev) and trimatic which all 253's are standard there are some out there that have been redrilled to turbo. if the th350 bolted up then a v8 4l60/th700 will as they are the same bolt pattern. what adapter where you after the engine to box or box to transfer are castmain rod shop may be able to help you out

Check about the pattern on the back of the motor carefully, as Ruggers says no 253 ever left the factory with a turbo pattern. It could have been redrilled though. If it is a turbo pattern all the turbo or chev gearboxs will bolt straight up. If it is a trimatic pattern (most likely) it will need an adaptor to mate up to a turbo hydro gearbox

4l60 and TH700r4 autos are the same
The only problem i have seen with an adaptor plates is you can not put the convertor cover back on to cover the flex plate, and usually cars with adaptor plates like to brake drive plates about every 6 months due to alignment problems there is another company that redrills the alloy bell housing on the auto's so it will bolt straight to the engine seems to work good havent seen any problems with that.

Cant sy if they are around, but if there are a couple around ill bet they have been redrilled to suit a turbo pattern. The 253 was fadded out on the eairly VH commodore(1983) and they diddnt use turbo patterns till VL commodore i think. If you want, you can get the block drilled to suit, i think it is just 2 holes that have to be drilled.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)

how are ya Elmo. just letting you know i bought that last adaptor from Dellow.. best investment ever, got it cheap too, anyway, dont put a 253 in a lux, go straight for a turbo pattern 308.. need the extra cubes to turn tyres over 31's.. the auto will drain more power than manual. i blew a hardened hilux gearbox, then, pissed off all the manual crap... No hilux gearbox will with stand anywhere near enogh power a v8 supplies... get a 308, i run one with twin system gas research, fully worked, approw 450bhp.. turns 35's no problem, and auto is excellent in the bush.. go for a turbo 400 with shift kit, strengthened if possible, try CRS for a adaptor... good luck. worth the hard work
