Well I've spent the last three hours trying to fit two front recovery hooks to the front of my Landcruiser without success. The holes in the chassis just do not match the holes in the hooks. They are about 2 or 3 mm out.
Another problem is that some of the holes have nuts welded to the inside of the chassis rail so the bolts that I got with the hooks will not go through.
The best that I can come up with is to use holes 1 and 2 (but i'm still a couple of mm out) by putting a rated bolt from the tow hook that screws into the nut welded to the chassis and putting a bolt that came with the recovery hook in hole 2. The only way I can really manage this is to drill out hole 2 so its bigger but I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do.
I don't know if this make it any clearer.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I wouldnt drill the nuts out, I have a 75mmx75mmx10mmm angle iron mouted uunder the chassis then mounted the hook to this so hook is sideways under car, works good

Well, it was easier than I thought. The captive nuts were only held on by four small welds (one in each corner). After a couple of dozen belts with a hammer and cold chisel, the nuts came off leaving clear holes in the chassis. I invested $20 on a decent round metal file from Bunnings and with a bit of effort expanded each hole by about 1.5mm making the bolts on the recovery hooks fit.
I now have two rated recovery hooks on the front of the Landcruiser.
I got mine off a truck from a wreckers ( think they cost $40 for four). The holes line up perfectly an it was just a matter of bolting the things on with cap screws. I Think that the standard thread size for those nuts in the rails is 12mm X 1.5

Mate, you were lucky. I couldn't find any hook that matched the Landcruiser holes.
How much did the hooks set u back? jt
