1HDT auto in 74 series want manual

i have a 74 series MWB with a 1HDT donk with an auto. Desperately want to convert to manual.... Any suggestions on which gear box would fit? Would a 60 series 5 speed bolt up ok?

Id be leaving it like it is...(o/d ratio makes for good cruising) now r u saying you grafted the 80 auto and transfer in there, or was the motor put in front of an original auto??? If the 80 auto is in there and transfer, all you need is a flywheel, clutch pedal and master, and line, and a h150 or h151 manual (80 series) or if the original auto is in there, you need a h55f bellhousing from a 1990 or later hzj75 landcruiser, then a h55f will fit in there.
All the above will require new tailshaft lengths, the two 80 boxes are very strong, the h150 having lower ratios on 1,2 and 3...and it comes out of standard van 80's with 1hz's
If you get one of them, 93 and later models are preferable, as hey have better synchros, all you need to do is use all 1hz stuff from flywheel to clutch. If you get a h151 box out of a 4.5 petrol or t/d auto, you will need to use the t/d flywheel (rockinghorse shit) or a izuzu clutch plate to fit the 1hz flywheel/clutch to the h151 spline.
The h55f box all have weak 5th gears, ones from the 1990 on hzj75's wear the output shaft and gear out, so the 80 box is the best choice behind a torquey motor like the hdt.
If you havnt already, put a pusher pump on the fuel system, and the motor will perform even better. Walbro is the brand, look around www.lcool.org for details.

The auto that sits in it is the 80 series that came with the motor. I'm not too familiar with the "rocking horse shit". Are you saying the TD flywheels are no good? I think i'll try to get the h150, sounds like a simpler transplant. What would I expect to pay for the necessery parts excluding machining costs etc.? any suggestions where to start looking for the parts near Melb.? Once again thank you for your most helpfull information.

All the t/d from japan are auto, so to get a 1hdt flywheel is harder than who knows what...easier to put a 1hz flywheel in there.
If you have the 80 auto and transfer, the manual will fit the transfer, but the maual is 60mm shorter, so you will need 2 tailshaft grafts or the motor has to move back.

I'm wondering whether a 1HDT pressure plate would fit a 1HZ flywheel, Andrew. I would think it has to be redrilled to accept a different or larger bolt pattern for the pressure plate, right?

MarzBar, are running a fulltime 4WD transfer in your 74? How are the front CV's taking it? Did you fit drive plates or keep the locking hubs?

I found a 1HDT with an H151 from Japan. Like dow50r said, they are not as common as autos. The motor is in my HJ75 but it is now mated to an H55. One day I will fit the H151 back on to it, or get a part time 4WD H150f.

The 74 has lockable hubs. unfortunately i do not know too much about TOJO'S as it is my FIRST..(FINALY!!!!) and i bought it as is with the 1hdt and auto.
