hilux turbo??
gday guys
i am looking to buy a toyota hilux at the moment and have found one that has taken my fancy and is at the right price for me. i just would like your opinion if u have one on the after market turbo that the lux has on it.
it is a94 hilux 219,00ks and has an aftermarket DENCO turbo on it which is possibly about 2 years old and was put on by the owner. it has a mod plate and everything, but i am not sure if it is a good brand or wether it could possibly wreck the diesel engine in the long run.
all opinions would be much appreciated.
cheers andy

My mate has a 94 Hilux diesel. He bought it non turbo. I drove it from time to time to cart sand or top soil in and considered it not much of a goer, especially loaded up. However, he decided to get a factory turbo from the wrecker and fitted it, the dam thing flys now. If it has an after market turbo on it I'd be interested to know how it goes conpared to the factory turbo. I suggest you find a non turbo, test drive it and then get straight into this one you want and see the differance. Make sure the turbo is water cooled as he had big overheating problems till he water cooled it and put in a bonnet scoop.

I have a dts kit on my 2.8 and it goes heaps better and is water / oil cooled
The turbo came of a Surf and yes they are factory turbo. This turbo is IS NOT water cooled from factory but you buy a kit and drill holes in the appropriate place and add the hoses. Would you like me to get photos. I have seen it with my own eyes.
Gents & 4sh
The 2L, 3L and 5L engines do not come with a factory turbo.
The turbo fitted by 4sh friend from a surf is almost certainly a turbo from a 2L-T engine. These can be adapted to fit onto the 3L engine.
