Hey guys,

just been reading the FAQ on the electric thermo fan conversion and was wondering if anyone came up with any easy ways to do it..

im not a welder so im trying to figure out how i would mount an electric radiator fan etc.. any tips would be muchly appreciated

went 4x4ing the other day and she was getting a little hot.. will get my mechanic to inspect it soon i think.. there may be a bit of a leak..

If you've got overheating problems with a serviceable viscous fan then DO NOT even think about converting to an electric thermo!! Those standard fit viscous fans do a bloody good job and you'll have trouble finding an electric thermo (that will fit in the tiny gap between the radiator and engine pulleys) that will do as good a job.

I've had a couple of different fans on mine and will be looking at possibly replacing the radiator to keep it cool on 40 degree days. With the aircon on it really struggles.....

murcod is correct about a clutch fan out performing an electric. The factory cooling systems generally always do a better job. There are combinations of radiators and electric fans that do pretty well.

In my case I broke my fan shroud out wheeling and I just tore it out to keep from making a lot of noise to keep wheeling. I then broke two of the fan blades off at a water crossing. Mike H. had sent me his electric fan that he was going to put in his Feroza. I don't know what the brand name is but I believe that it is made in Oz. It is very stout with a metal frame that was supposed to mount directly in the Feroza fan shroud. I ran that for a few years without a shroud no problems. I am still running it after the 2.7L engine swap. It has been 40 only once or twice but a steady 37-39 most days. I did get my water temperature gauge working and the highest I've seen it is 91. This is with a smaller 2RZ (75mm shorter) radiator instead of the 3RZ that I am supposed to be using. I still haven't got a shroud for the Toyota radiator. It has an adjustable thermocouple and I wired it to a toggle switch so that I can turn it off at water crossings. I am VERY impressed with that fan!
