VE vs. In-Line fuel pump on Patrol with TD42

Post by chrispy »

Hi all

Can someone tell me the difference between the VE-type pump and the in-line? I have the VE, and not having seen one before (seen plenty of Patrols with in-lines) I was wondering what the differences, advantages or disadvantages of having one were? Which type is newer in design and which is more reliable? Is one easier to maintain over the other? I notice that GU 4.2's still have one...

Sorry for all the questions....

Cheers

VE pumps are a lot simpler in design and cheaper to manufacture.

VE pumps are lubricated by the diesel fuel, while inline pumps are lubricated by the engines oil. Diesel is not as good as oil for lubrication.

Inline pumps are generally considered superior to VE pumps.
