GU 3lt diesel valve clearances - Advice needed

Post by AndrewPatrol »

Took my GU into Nissan dealer for a 80k service (warrantee runs out in about 2 months) hoping they would at least check valve clearances. In my gregory manual it clearly shows clearances are set with shims. Nissan dealer said clearances are set by shims with hydraulic liftrers as well !!!!
After much discussion and my request to see the Nissan manual (which didnt happen),, it didnt get done. My impression was that they didnt want to do the job, saying that they've had 200k 3lt diesels in thatare still going. Now I want mine to go a lot more than 200k (you may laugh) so what do I do??? Wait till its out of warranttee and do it myself (I realise there are special tools involved and I'm not scared of it) or go back and jump up and down till they do it, go to another dealer ( and watch that they do it!!!). Sorry about the long Question. Any Nissan mechanics out there??

manual states "if req'd" but as I said to them how do you know if its req'd if you don't open it up. My problem is if they dont want to seem to do it, why should I entrust them to it. I would have thought 80k is plenty to at least check. I am hoping for some inside info from a Nissan guy as to the real story. Given the 3lt fragile history, I dont want a half wit who couldnt really be bothered playing with my $60k car. Guess all the above points to me waiting for the warranttee to run out and do it myself.
