ifs rears, NEW QUESTION

Post by Arron nz »

I have looked at all the "ifs rears" threads I can find and dont beleave this question has been asked or answered.

I have a holden v6 in my lux, If I put standard ifs rears in my truck (with a 200mm shackle) am I going to have wraping issues. No I am not going to put a track/wrap bar in. (a wrapbar would make a very cheap easy conversion less cheap and easy) I am currently running 33" but will be going 35" in the (hopefully near) future. Thanks every body.

i'm looking at the same thing.

i've got the same engine and spring setup as you but with 2" lift blocks.
i'm running a trac bar but plan on taking the lift blocks out and running it with no trac bar.
it will be interesting to hear what people have to say.

Yes IFS spring swap is cheap, from what i've heard it requires a trac bar to work.

Other thing is that one set if IFS springs are cheap, when you stuff them through axle wrap and have to buy another set you'll just think you should have bought/made a trac bar in the first place.

Cheap mods are only good if they work.

I got IFS rears and no trac bar. :finger:

Only if you start removing leaves or the load leaves will you need a trac bar. ;)

i run standard ifs rears with 31's and a welded diff and i get a fair amount of axle wrap so i woudln't want to run 35's with a commo v6 without a trac bar. I can feel it on the road on take off wrappign and makign the back bounce a bit

Gribble,

I stand corrected.

However with the increased horsepower of the commodore motor and the increased leverage of the 35" tyre axle would you think axle wrap could still be an issue?

With the horsepower bit it depends on how it gets driven, same with the 35's. If its going to be flat stick up hills bouncing off every stationary object then yes. :D

But i got the 2.8 oil burner in mine and I tend to just idle up stuff and still get to the top (of most stuff). And i dont get any problems from the rear.
As a matter of fact, i believe my IFS leaves are softer than the standard springs i had in the back that didn't have any load springs. :D

Why? If you have a grinder and a welder and know how to use them (or a mate that does) you can make a track bar for a bit over $100. Since rewelding it properly back on mine it has performed flawlessly and shows no signs of breaking off again. If you run less leaves (you will if you want the flex that IFS springs can offer) this $100 outlay will save them, especially with the v6.

Thanks every body. very helpful stuff. Drop Bear, any pics of your track bar, or should I just check out the track bar threads? Is yours just a single arm or a proper one? The welder is a small issue, but I can get cheap labour. I was more trying to avoid any certification issues (I havent checked weather it would need to be certified, if it does then that adds $300 straight away) The places here in NZ where I am driving often require a certain amount (read quite a bit) of wheel spin, So I wont be idling. I agree with the "a cheap mod is only good if it works" comment, thats why I am checking it out. Thanks again.

p.s
What is the easiest bush to use in a track bar? same is in the leaves?

Cheers.

I had bought da standard 4" lift kit every1 buys at 1st.......extended shackles,2" lift springs & ranchos 2 suit. FKD all dat so went wit ome ifs rears wit 2" lift blocks(which r'nt as bad as every1 says),u bolt flip, kept da extend. shackles, moved da front spring mounts 4ward 1 1/2",went 1 pce tail shaft,TRACK BAR & now uses da whole travel in a pair of 9012's like dis- / \ .
On da front is ome standard rears,2" dropped front x-member,x-ova steer, xtend prop shaft, shock hoops & as da rear does....uses all of da 9012's.
Can't complain 4 a truck dat runs me down da f/way 5 days a wk & hasn't given me any trouble offroad.
