Reading carefully through CAPs again (my new hobby) and found reference to the 5.29s again... but can't seem to figure what they came in, beyond a part number...
Were they only in the early genIs with the little (2.3) diesel, or was there a genII application as well? And were they only in a particular market, or widely available, across the board... I'm looking at the JDM, and haven't found reference to them yet, in genIIs... but if they could be had, ALREADY installed, then maybe that would be the way to go...

Phil we got them in the early Gen 1 2.3 diesels and the Gen 2 2.5 TDI.
Other markets got 5.29's in various models.
Tell me the part no's and I can tell you what models they came out on.
Also in Japan some of the 4x4 vans (L300) came with them.
Someone told me our early L300's (with 1.6 motor) had 5.29's but I haven't seen any evidence of this.

I just luv my "clacker Jabber"
Thanks Viccy boy... I'm looking at the 91 V24WG's, which were the highline (XRII?) metaltop wide (the one with the flares), and I'm still waffling on stick versus auto - I be a stick boy, but left-hand shift scares me. By the same token, the 7.25" front diff in the auto genII scares me even more, so I dunno which way to go. All the option packages I can find listing the 91 JDM models list 4.88s for the 2.5TDI (which would still be an improvement over my 4.62s), and I did a search by chassis number in Jap-CAPS and got both 488s and 529s... so I'm thinking it'll be a crap shoot as to which ones are in there if I end up "getting with the 90's"Bitsamissin wrote:Phil we got them in the early Gen 1 2.3 diesels and the Gen 2 2.5 TDI.

I'm also trying to figure out which model of SWB came with a rear locker in the JDM in 91... But haven't seen any reference to it... This whole genII stuff makes my brain hurt, but it sure is fun! Just hearing the words "high pinion" gets me all...
Sorry, I digress...
