front hubs automatically engaging in 2H while on highway.

front hubs automatically engaging in 2H while on highway.
i have a 91 petrol pajero, and the front hubs are engaging while i am driving, it is proving to be a pain in the #$$&%. when the lights come on in the dash nuthing happens but when they flick off or before they flick on, u can hear them engaging and then if im on the highway or sumthing they will make a whining noise which i think proves THEY ARE IN while im doin like 100 or 110 k's an hour. any idea folks? oh yer, i disconnected the wireing harness from the front diff i think it was or the transfer case, and they haven't appeared to have come on again. but it is an intermidance problem. RETZ
Hello
By disconnecting the wiring you have only stopped the dash light from flashing. The locking system is engaged by the two vacumn lines running from just in front of the brake booster. You may have a split line causing the actuator to intermintetly engage. At worst the vacumn solenoids may be cactus and need replacing. Get a service manual for the test proceedure.
Best of luck!!

Shorty Gen2, lots of stuff and more to come!
hey i went out and located the vacuum lines and the solanoids, they all seem to be intact, i mean its not like the lines are disconected or leaking that i can notice, but they do have coloured markings on them, as i have only had the vehicle for a month or two, what could this mean!?!?!? a yellow and a blue mark on the actuall wire plug bit, thing. hahaha RETZ
I ended up replacing the solenoid assemby on my paj after a few months of ownership. One of the solenoids had poo'd it's self and was allowing vacumn through on occasion. This meant lights flashing and not being able to select 4x4 without getting under the bonnet and manually changing over the hoses. Had to buy the two soleniods and bracket as an assembly which was a poo too. All been fine for years now though
Maybe you could find someone local and do some side by side checks to make sure yours is doing the same as a known good one. Swapping the solenoid block over is only a matter disconecting the lines and wiring, and two 6mm bolts.
Keep trying!!
