The "Volvo extra gearbox" is a mod thats been used by icelandic car builders for years.
Maybe especially for Suzukis ´cause they really need the lower gearing when riding on big tires.
They use the Volvo gearbox because its strong and compact.
I went recently for a ride in a lwb Zook that had a Volvo 2.3 enginge, four speed auto and an extra gearbox. I forget which transfer case was in it but it rode on Daihatsu Rocky axles and 38s. The gearing in 1st 1st low was awesome.
There are some professional builders in Iceland who do this kind of mods and may even have some sort of kits for it.
If anyone is interested I can try to find some links.
