plantary reduction gears
plantary reduction gears
okay was just wondering if anyon has ever thought of mounting a plantary gear set between the t/case and gearbox on a sierra cause it would either be 1:1 or something like 3:1.....
this in conjuction with the t/case would give a nice set of 3 ranges
and a massive reduction in low/low range

Seems like it . 110% final ratio.
although this from the first link:
"In the main picture you can see the red thing between transmission and
transfer case. That red thing is a Volvo transmission out of Volvo
142. The short shaft between the transmission and transfer case has been
replaced by the 4 speed Volvo transmission. This Suzuki has 32 forward
gears altogether! The lowest gear ratio is about 110:1 and still the high
ratio is stock. "
Only in a 410 it was done mind you. How much longer is a 1.3/5spd than a 1ltr/4spd?

yeah i was thinking planteary was a better idea than a normal gearbox because you would have no power loss or noise because the high range is just the output and input shaft locked together
also u could make it resonable narrow so u could most likely maintain the propshaft which makes things less complex
was thinging about using a planteary gear out of the first gear of an auto box or something along those lines.

You have got me thinking . . . .
I got out a pile of shop manuals and looked at diagrams of C4,C6,904 & BW35's and I can see how easy it would be to get the reduction but locking and unlocking is going to require a little thaught as would the case.
Anybody got any ideas
