right well.
The fuel filter on the zook gave up and let filthy fuel into the carb. The fuel was black. This pretty much caused some problems, blocking up the main jet, which cleared itself. Then blocking the idle jet, which didn't.
So the carbs been taken apart cleaned and rebuilt and put back on.
Only one issue.
Basically theres this little bar thing on the firewall side near the throttle. As far as I can tell this opens/closes the choke plate. Anyway it was somehow bent when taking the carb apart and when it was put back on the throttle would get stuck open. It wouldn't get stuck if flicked quickly, only if opened anymore slowly than a quick flick. It would close most of the way and then get stuck.
When this little bar thing is straightened the throttle is fine, but the choke plate won't open. It'll run absurdly rich, chug and puff out black smoke. It'll then pretty much starve itself of air until it stalls.
Now it'll probably be seen by a mechanic, but not for a few days atleast. It's really shitting me so I was wondering if you guys had any insight ?
Oh and also, a mystery spring came off from somewhere on the outside of the carby. Basically a smallish spring with one of the hooks having an arm thats quite a bit longer. Any connection with the current problem ?
Might try and get some pics up tommorow if that helps.

"It has the aerodynamics of a brick." - Comment about the Sierra by my dads mate.
this sounds like the spring which holds the choke open. there should be a lil white cog on the end of the choke shaft thing..... the spring goes on that and holds it open. have a look and see if you can work out where the spring goes there should be a lug for the hook part to go onto. when the engin is not runing the choke should be open with a few mil gap either side.
