Winch wiring
I have done the whole search thing but could not find any posts regarding setting up in-car (push button) style controls for a 3 wire setup, warn winch.
There are only 3 wires coming from the solenoid box (white, green and black.)
Any help, diagrams or volunteers would be appreciated!

White should be the active (Will be joined to the main active cable from battery in the controll box) and the green and black are in and out. All you need to do is join on to these wires and run them in to the cab and use a spring return on/off/on switch with the active wire going on the centre terminal on the switch and the green and black wires going to the other 2 terminals. If you want to put a saftey switch in so that it can`t be accedently turned on then cut the white wire (the active) and join a wire on to each side of them then run these 2 wires into the cab and put a on/off switch on them.
Guts has summed up my setup. (white wire) positive feed off battery thru fuse and then isolating switch (under bonnet). this then goes to winch solenoid box where can either plug in normal warn hand controller, or all 3 wires feed back to cab where i have 3 position momentary (on) off (on) switch. this switch is mounted in piece of 1" square tube about 10cm long on a approx 1m lead. this means it copies warn controller style (can't confuse win in and winch out) and 1m lead means can hold switch and use even if on real steep inclineGuts wrote:White should be the active (Will be joined to the main active cable from battery in the controll box) and the green and black are in and out. I just had a look at my setup to understand what you guys both said. It seems easy enough. There are 3 heavy wires coming from the solenoid box, which go to the three respective points on the winch. Then the three smaller wires go to the in car push button setup.
There is also a heavy duty cable that (red in colour) I guess goes to the positive on the battery. But I dont seem to have a ground wire.
Where should this ground wire (that I seem to be missing) connect to. Does it connect to the winch or the solenoid box?

For the motor to work, the current into the motor needs to flow back to the -ve post on the battery - you can try using the mounting for this as guts said. Power suffer if any of the earthing connections or cables are not up to scratch. Better to run a ground cable of the same size, from the ground connection on the motor direct to the battery -ve post. The ground connections on my winch motors are tapped holes with hexagon head screws - you should see this screw somewhere on your motor casing.
