I have been looking at new tyres for a 92 ELIII ie narrow track with the smaller flares. I think the FAQs on tyres are rather confusing but get the impression that 235/75/15s will fit on the standard rim with little or no rubbing on a non body or suspension lifted narrow track (can wind up the torsion bars a bit if there is a problem).
I know they won't be legal and won't get into that argument.
I have decided on a newish brand to Oz tyre called the Eldoradao Trailmark - basically made by cooper tyres in the US where they have the 50000 mile warranty. See:

The trailmarks come in a pretty aggressive A/T and also a M/T pattern. Shopped around and can get them here in WA for $165 fitted/balanced/old tyre disposed or the A/T or $150!! for the Muddies. Both have a 14mm tread depth which is identical to my cooper A/Ts on my Rodeo. These have done 50000km so far (mostly on road) and have 80% tread left. I wanted the coopers but at about $240 a tyre it is too much cash. The cooper mileage warranty is a farce (rotating tyres every 10000km by authorised dealer, basically not going off road etc and I wouldn't want deal with the the australian reps (Fcukwits by all accounts) but the tyres are good!
Can anyone confirm that I should have no clearance problems with the narrowtrack flares with 235/75/15s on standard rims perhaps apart from mudflap bolts, and as I will be leaving the swaybar connected this should also be no probs?

I found the following;
cooper 225 70 atr $180
cooper 235 75 st $190
im looking at getting 225/70 sized tires - i currently have 235s but want better accelleration on the road..(at the moment I think the gears are too long with these tires) my suspension is stock but need some new shocks
accelleration rate and clutch wear is worth thinking about when looking into a bigger tyre.. I think 215 or 205 is standard.. so anything bigger makes the car slower to accellerate and puts more strain on the clutch..
