Just a question I'm throwing out to you guys is what is the range are you getting out of your TD42?

Mine seems a little thirsty I don't think I would get more than 700k's outta both tanks. Is this normal? Does 14l/100km sound about right?

my GU 4.2 turbo diesel gets about the same as you , i think its a bit poor i would have expected to get about 1000k,s

i get 14l per 100 on a good run! with 285's
mines a coil cab

usually closer to 15l

I'm getting 12.5L/100km combined city/highway - and that's on 33's. Pure highway I'm seeing 11.5. Distances checked with GPS to get accurate consumption.

1995 GQ (came naturally aspirated) with DTS (Dynamic) aftermarket turbo fitted. Pulls like a train too!

Cheers, so is it much different to drive with std gearing and 285's? I've got 265's and was wondering how you go with the dodgy low range and taking off in first with a load/trailer? Would like 285's if it doesn't stuff the gearing too much.

Personally I think these things are sh$t on juice... I have 33's on my 88 td42 (They are meant to be somehow special more truck like than the later ones, so I have been told) Lucky to get 350 out of HALF a tank on the Hway. Admittedly I do drive up hills just under 3 grand in fourth gear cause I am sick of going slow...

But still for a diesel, and considering the price you pay for the stuff, the only real benefit I can see in having one of these engines naturally aspirated is Longevity and the knowledge that it will most likely alwayz start... But not necesarrily get you to where you wanna go quickly...

I am going back to uni next year and am trying to get a turbo on before such time. I am hoping I will get better economy say 1000kms out of a tank. Paying for diesel as a uni student :roll: I can see me filtering vegi oil in the back yard now :twisted:
