Body lifts

Has anyone had any serious problems with lifting bodies. What needs to be done, does steering and brakes need to be extended are there prblems with the extra presure being put on the tail shaft?

my hilux:

-feul filler hose extended
-gear stick extended
-brake proportioning value extended
-bullbar lifted
-rear bar lifted
-headlights adjusted

more, more, more.... the list seems to go on for ages

your uni joints will run at a higher angle

have you considered a suspension lift first :?:

all wiring in the engine bay will need to be checked out especially the alternator ect

also bar work will be different hight to the body ;)

what do uni joints and a body lift have in common... unis go from the
gearbox (chasis mounted) to the diffs... also chasis mounted, uni angles are independent of body lift..


back to answeering the question at hand, you will need to extend the steering shaft, it should have enough slip in the splines, the coils in the solid section of the brakelines will need to be stretched open, no extension will be needed for a body lift... also the radiator will need to be lowered again so the fan does not hit on the shroud..

drive tran angles wont change..
. sounds like a long list of stuff but if u find someone around you that has done it 2 blokes can easily do it all in half a day...

this is mounted on the chasis and runs to the top of the rear diff... independent of body hieght and will only need to be ajusted/extended if you do a suspension lift...

things i had to do for my 2" b/l were these,

drop radiator 2", took out thick rubber boot that sits over gear/transfer sticks (allowed me to select 5th and reverse with this out), loosen and slide steering shaft out a little more, lift my bullbar 2" and thats about all.

i havent extended my fuel filler hose but i should as its at full stretch

cheers for the info sounds like a little involved!

its a 97 mod hilux sr5 with 22R motor for those who asked

and it has a 2 inch suspension lift (independent front end)

all i had to do is the fuel filler every think eles worked on my 1985 ln65
o and slot the shroud for the radiator with a 2 inc lift

Ok, with reference to the red writing, the alternantive to lowering radiator is to cut the shroud to hell (well jaust a small trim :D ). I have done this and have no problems with sucking enough air through the radiator, also have not had it picked up on in any rego what so ever.

In regards to lengthening gearleavers this is all bullpoop. Yeah the shifter slips down a bit but its fine to operate with (I did 3" lift no worries). Furthermore, the 4wd shift does need to be altered but with an oxy this is no worries.

Besides this there are no other real problems that can be encounter bar the obvious bullbar and bumper lift. But if you are resourceful enough to get yourself out of a boghole then you can sure as hell figure out how to lift the bar work ;) .

the easy alternitave here is removing the rubber boot under the vynal/leather cover.. when he says hittin it with an oxy its just heating it and changing the shape a little, not cutting and re joining..

Yeah too right Slayer thats exactly what I meant.

With the rubber boot though it is there to serve purpose besides noise damping. It is also the seal for dust (bulldust especially) and moisteure getting in through that hole. But if you leave your wiindows down while flying through mud then I guess this wont bother you either! :armsup:

Good luck with the lift, I did it on my own in a day with a very small trolley jack and two bottle jacks so you'll be right mate!
