icom software and cable

hey guys

i got a icom 400 pro and want to change the it from 5watts to 25watts i hear there is some software which can do this..

any ideas on what software is called/ or where i can get it from also where i can get the cable from

as far as i know, this is illegal in australia. im not sure why............but im preety sure there is a good reason for it.

I can supply the cable and software for $60.00 think they go for about 80 bucks on ebay.

I registered, then after the moderator sent me confirmation, I was able to download the software etc from the files section.

I bought a programming cable from MB Radio Electronics www.mbradio.com.au they gave me good service. From memory it was $60 + mailing. gqswb may be just as good!

It's all well and good to want a 25W UHF radio, even though it is illegal. BUT, unless the people you are talking to have a 25W radio, its possible that you will be in the situation where they can hear you, but because of their lowly 5W radios, you will not be able to hear them. This won't happen very often, but it's something to keep in mind.
Even UHF repeaters are required to have 21W EIRP (including antenna gain) output, so with a 6dB antenna, a 5W repeater radio will give ~20W EIRP.
So....considering you will probably hook the Icom (25W) radio up to a high gain antenna, there will be situations where you can access a repeater, but not hear it back.

i gotta a mate using the icom 400 pro down here. works a treat, program easy to use. I cant get a signal from my house to his with 5 watt. we use 25 watt and no problamo at all. repaters are actually easy to hit as well. i heard the icom is good for around 40 watt if modded.

Remeber 25 watts is only illeagal if your caught

Me, i use an old phillips prm 8030. runs rings around the icom especially with the receive capabilities. softwares a PITA but once done it kicks ass

Some can output more than 40W just using the adjust software (no hardware mods), but fan cooling (over heatsink) is advisable. Using the adjust software is not advisable without suitable test equipment as the radio can be stuffed up.

BTW the adjust software is different to that used to programme the frequencies and 25W Tx etc.

The PA's in the 400 are very unstable and fail within 2 months others have had the same problem. Mine was running stock at 25 and died down to about 4w. I didn't notice until I put it back on the bench to turn the power down to only 1 watt to drive my 100W :twisted:Motorola 100% duty cycle 25.8 amps at 13.8v power amp. Sits in the back of my shorty with 4 gauge running to it. I have the right equitment to test (Marconi 2955) I fix this stuff every day for a job. Moral of story 40watts is pushing it for a PA that is rated at only 30.

ive got a ic 400 pro as a homebase set runnin through a 12bd hombase arial and go to lower power to run a 100wt linear and ive never had a prob in over 12 months of hard use! there only let down is the mic is piss week and break easily but if you want to jack it up to 25 just get onto one of the repeaters and there will be someone who has the program to do it for you guaranteed!~

From reading through the yahoo group posts, it appears that if the cb bank is reprogrammed to high power and you later switch power sttings from the front controls, the cb bank reverts to 5W.

If a private bank is programmed to the cb frequencies and high power, they will retain the power setting unless adjusted to tx much above 25W, when heat is a problem. They don't appear to have too much trouble with 25 - 35W on the private banks.
